I know it's a long way off still, but I just want to see what everybody thought for Medium-High settings.

I assume it would be just guesstimates, but still...

I'm looking at building this sytem:

Processor: Q9550 (Overclocked modestly) w/ Mugen 2 or XIGMATEK Dark Knight
Mobo: Asus P5Q Pro Turbo
RAM: 8GB OCZ Platinum DDR2 1066 (4*2 GB)
HDD: Samsung F1 750GB
Graphics: GTX 260/275 or ATI HD4870/4890 (depends when I build it/prices)
OS: Windows Vista 64, with free upgrade to Windows 7 64
Case:
*Full Tower- Antec 1200/CM HAF 932
*Mid-Tower- CM 590 or 690/Antec 300/900
PSU: Corsair 520W/650W(depending on GFX, probs 650W though)

I may upgrade to newer Graphics someday if/when budget permits (GT300 series)

EDIT: not sure, but thought this was most logical section

Why not go i7?  Would cost you about $150-$300 more depending on the RAM and mobo you get, but would be way better and way more future proof.

I've been looking at that too, it's just out of budget with screen, mouse, and keyboard I want to get.

It's a little closer to budget if I get parts from all over, Micro Center, Newegg, and elsewhere.

I want to go i7, but I'm not sure I can swing it with my budget and the screen, mouse, and keyboard I want.

I think it's worth the extra $ for future proofing

What PSU would be recommended for future proofing/future SLI of 260's or similar?

TBH, 625w Enermax runs everything you would get. X2/GTX 295 & i7 &lots of HDD et.c included.

I have the PSU that you picked out (the OCZ one) and it's great.  I run my PC 24/7 folding/gaming/movies/internet/whatever and it's been rock solid.

There's a lot of good companies out there, OCZ, Silverstone, Antec, Enermax, Corsair and Thermaltake are just a few.

OCZs are TOPOWERS, which are not that great.

Enermax and Corsair are atm the best manufacturers, Seasonic is in top 3 too.

I would recommend

Why are you omitting PCP&C? Also very excellent PSU's.

Some of them are (which makes them excellent), some are customized CWTs.
