It's now a manor but it's built on the foundations of a castle constructed in 1075. It played a role of significance in the power struggles in medieval Flanders (like you all care). Our town has the nickname of "brigand town" because of an uprising against the French occupation during Napoleon's days. In World War I, Roland Garros was supposed to bomb a train in our station but was spotted by the Germans, shot down and Garros landed somewhere near an old mill, which still exists.

Kate Sheppard - responsible for women getting the vote, thus making this country the oldest true democracy in the world.

Meh. If anybody knew the real history behind the guy Croc Dundee was based on they'd steer clear of here, Pine Creek (the place 80km up the road where Mick Dundee lived), and the rest of the territory.
Internationally though, it is known as well...
That.
Town is full of tourists and backpackers from Europe atm. Normally is at this time of year. At any one time there will be a few hundred or more in the town for around 6 months of the year. In a town of 9000, that's a lot.

Wyoming was a good 30 years or so before that. Sure, they aren't a nation, but they were a Territory at the time and became a State of the USA.Pubic wrote:
