DeathUnlimited has very kindly put together this system for me. I hope he doesn't take any offence if I ask for second opinions.

Usage:

- Light gaming
- Watching films/etc
- Listening to music
- Photo manipulation
- Occasional video editing, encoding, etc
- General browsing, word processing, etc

I value silence, a little. Will potentially be over clocking, a little.

Budget is about £900.

There's not much point getting a better sound card: I won't be able to notice any difference with the speakers I have.

What's the difference? Seems like a perfectly good alternative and all that remains would be simply to pick and be done with it.

At stock the Phenom II will outperform a stock Q9450. When overclocking the Phenom II will likely still be ahead somewhat. The Q9450 just isn't a good overclocker

The 260GTX Core 216 is a little faster than a 4870, uses less power and is more silent

The differences arent huge, either would be decent. Although i'd go with 1066Mhz RAM on max's build instead of the 800Mhz.

EDIT: and if your happy to spend the money/might want to add more stuff later on, u could go for the 650 Corsair instead of the 520.

I went 4870 because it was quite a bit cheaper than core216 on ebuyer + the mobo is crossfire. Q9450 I went because I don't know shit about AMD mobos, purely. Someone that knows could pick a better CPU - mobo combo on ebuyer.

EDIT: Oh, and that samsung EG F2 was to be switched to an F1 because I failed to notice F2's are 5400RPM at first.

Of course you can mix and match a little.

The the Phenom II/790GX combo costs pretty much exactly as much as Q9450/P5Q combo while giving slightly better performance. Intel needs 1066MHz ram, AMD works fine with 800MHz - so that might save you a couple £.

The Samsung F2 is a 5400RPM drive which is pretty slow.

The 260GTX is generally better than the 4870. Something like this would be great

Antec 300 is the much nicer case

The 520HX is known for its exceptional quality, so I'd recommend sticking with that

edit: the TX650W is not bad either, but doesn't have much advantages over the HX520W either...

There just weren't any on ebuyer and I figured 650TX will run anything you ever want to upgrade to that rig anyways.

yep. Worth it.

by the time GTX 260 doesn't cut it anymore, there is much better single cards out. Therefore the CF support isn't critical.

Website admin forgot to update the prices of lower models when they applied the price cuts for 940. Happens all the time. The smaller the store, the lionger it usually takes for prices to get updated.
