I hope that terrible shit was in FLAC.
That picture alone is evidence that the dick swinging between you and .Sup can go on for-fucking-ever... but neither of you will ever actually have a REAL fucking clue about sound and music.
I just read a quite good statement:
Some listen to gear, just to hear the music.
Some listen to music, just to hear the gear.
I belong to the latter group.
Some listen to gear, just to hear the music.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
Exactly what I was gonna say..Sup wrote:

What the hell is the point in listening to music to hear the gear? The whole point of that gear is to deliver the music, the point of music....is music.
I am confused.
Well that's a silly statement.Freezer7Pro wrote:

I mean, sure, a reference mic would make it easier, but isn't tweaking your EQ supposed to be a personal prefference thing? You DO tweak your EQ settings to improve your personal enjoyment, right?
It just seems to me like all this reference mic EQ stuff is for people who like to brag about how their music is on the exact decibel/wavelength/whatever as to what's "correct", rather than for people who fiddle with the EQ to bring the music to the sound they personally like best.
Thats exactly what I do. And exactly why EQ is there.Jenspm wrote:

I bet after all this shit it turns out freezer is like tone deaf to half the sound spectrum
An equalizer is there to equalize; to make the curvy and crappy roller-coaster of a frequency curve that speakers and rooms have to one that's equal over all frequencies. That's why it's called an equalizer.Jenspm wrote:

And what I meant by posting the statement is that I enjoy tinkering with the gear much, much more than I enjoy the actual music. Of course I have preferences in music and enjoy some (lots) more than other, but it's not as important to me as having it reproduced as accurately as possible. I enjoy the tick of the speaker relay in my amplifier much more than I enjoy the notification of a new track that has finished downloading.

So rather than making music sound what pleases me most, I should try to make a graph as flat as possible.Freezer7Pro wrote:

That's what an equalizer is intended for. If you use it for that is up to you.GC_PaNzerFIN wrote:

I had a Technics equalizer (hifi- component) and it was specifically designed to enhance if you want or make the sound more pleasing to your ears. There were preset settings or you could manually adjust tonality. If you listened to Electronica you just pressed the preset for electronic music such as dance, trance, techno,...Freezer7Pro wrote:

That doesn't really sound like a serious unit. I'd never use pre-sets for anything, as every system and room is unique..Sup wrote:

And as I said, an equalizer is intended to equalize the sound, hence the name, but there is nothing forcing you to do so.

It was only 600€ (if I calculate to today's currency). technics is(was) a shite company anyways, especially for audio rite?Freezer7Pro wrote:

Technics had some really great stuff and some really shit stuff. I don't associate factory presets with the former. It'd sure be easier to make my mind up if I knew the model number..Sup wrote:

I sold it 5 years ago. Its a 12 year old unit. The entry level cost 100€ (at the time that was more like 170€). It was a phenomenal unit, great reviews.Freezer7Pro wrote:

Besides, 100€ in 1992 (~150 today) is not a lot for an EQ.

Fucksake you two, fuck off!
Freezer, I listen to Venetian Snares with my equalizer purposefully set wrong through mobile-phone speakers.
And I am way fucking better with music than you are.
Go.

anyway it was a great unit with great reviews, worth every penny like all Technics components I had. Ever listened to any? Oh wait you don't have to actually listen to any to be a smart ass right?Freezer7Pro wrote:

I'm with Uzique here. You guys don't need your own thread, take it to XFire
Wtf are you talking about, listening to gear and music? The whole purpose of music and music equipment is so that hopelessly inept social retards like Freezer can try and look "cool" and can fit in, right? Freezer is like the quiet, monobrowed one at school that probably latches on to all the actually cool kids that set the trends with their music tastes, by being the 'tech guy' music fan that appreciates the graphs and frequencies more than the actual sounds. Well, fuck that. I love music and this penis-lightsabre duel that you two fucktards ALWAYS have just pisses me off..Sup wrote:

Sup, you listen to bland monotonous house/trance, who gives a fuck? You could listen to your music through a Gameboy and it would sound just as boring and pointless. Freezer, you have 4 FLAC albums and pictorial evidence has proven that at least one of those are Guns'n'Roses. That's a one in four 'GnR : music taste' ratio. If that gets any worse then euthanasia will seriously be the only solution.
