Greetings again
I've managed to get some money set by to upgrade my machine again, and I'd like some advice as to what to get. I bought a new graphics card about 6 months ago and the consensus was that I was bottlenecking my system.

My specs;

Processor 1 (ID = 0)
Number of cores        1
Number of threads                    2 (max 2)
Name            Intel Pentium 4 531
Codename                        Prescott
Specification        Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz
Package            Socket 775 LGA (platform ID = 4h)
CPUID            F.4.1
Extended CPUID        F.4
Core Stepping        E0
Technology        90 nm
Core Speed        2992.4 MHz (15.0 x 199.5 MHz)
Rated Bus speed        798.0 MHz
Stock frequency        3000 MHz
Instructions sets    MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, EM64T
L1 Data cache        16 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size
Trace cache        12 Kuops, 8-way set associative
L2 cache        1024 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64-byte line size
FID/VID Control        no
Features        XD

Motherboard
Northbridge        Intel i945P/PL/G/GZ rev. 00
Southbridge        Intel 82801GB (ICH7/R) rev. A1
Graphic Interface    PCI-Express
PCI-E Link Width    x16
PCI-E Max Link Width    x16
Memory Type        DDR2
Memory Size        4096 MBytes
Channels        Single
Memory Frequency    266.0 MHz (3:4)
CAS#            4.0
RAS# to CAS#        4
RAS# Precharge        4
Cycle Time (tRAS)    12
Bank Cycle Time (tRC)    16

Motherboard is Dell made.

Graphics Card is an Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+, Graphics Clock 738 MHz, Processor Clock 1836 MHz, 512MB.

I've set a budget of about £500. Any tips or recommendations would be great, and I'd like something that would make full use of my graphics card. A new motherboard and CPU would be good, I'd prefer not to have to redo my PSU but I will if necessary.

If you need to know any other specs, ask and I will post.

Many thanks in advance

I don't have the time to prune out anything but I would recommend a new mothboard, CPU & Ram.

Plus I don't know exactly how much £500 euros is

What are the specs of your current PSU?

Corsair HX520W is excellent should you need new PSU.

Probably works. Seemed to be 2x18A 12V rails....

But I would really recommend new one.

Edit: Think of it this way: You are eventually going to have to change that PSU anyway. Might as well do it now.

Yeah, future proof it now. I might need to get a new case as well, I get the feeling even with the fan there'll be massive overheating.
Any suggestions?

I agree that you should get a new PSU. Your current one is just too weak and can lead to funky instability issues down the road. Also since it's rather old chances are that it won't actually be able to supply 100% of it's rated amps anymore.

Cooler master Elite 330 series is cheap and works well. It's even pretty silent. Just make sure to mount the HDD in a 5.25'' bay instead of a 3.5'' one. The 3.5'' ones just plain suck

I personally like the Cooler Master because you don't need to screw anything in. It's all tool-less mounting.

I've used the 300 in 2 builds. Not as cheap as the cooler master but it is a nicer case. Bottom mounted PSU, better HDD bay. Also looks better imo

You could also take a betterCPU cooler than the stock one(if you are going to overclock) & a SATA DVD burner.

No. Don't get the CM PSU. You can get better for same price. Corsair HX520W.

I recommend ebuyer.com. They seem to be the cheapest option in the UK.

Update: The system works fine apart from a couple minor teething troubles, so +1 for those with the awesome recommendations

I'd watch that dell PSU.

I ran a single GTS 512 on it for a year, how ever, my brother tried the same thing on the same model dell computer (Actually a lower clocked C2D, only 2 Dimms of RAM) and the PSU killed everything. EVGA RMA ftmfw.

Edit: Oh shi- 666 days.
