Line infantry are fucking awesome. You just need to get 'fire by rank'.

Also nothing tops canister shot for defence.

I really want this game but I'm worried about system specs.

Going by minimum specs it should work.  I'm downloading the demo now to test it.

I really should get a decent syetem for gaming, but since BF2 there is rarely a PC game that I want, but this looks awesome.

My laptop is basically exactly the same specs as that. got a GeForce GO 7600 GS, 2Gb RAM and 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo. My laptop was really struggling in battles even on low graphics.

I can play BF2 on pretty much high settings with no problems on this system

The demo ran reasonably well on low to medium settings so I went out and got the full game.

The graphics will be shit, but it's more about the gameplay for me.  Goodbye France.

Any game that lets you annihilate france, is a good game.

My question: Should I buy it? Looks great, but not sure
I love Company of Heroes dearly, and have played the close combat, command and conquer, etc. series, but this seems different. Love RTS (and huge FPS fainboi as long as I'm at it) comp is no problem to run it, and should look nice on my new 22 incher (upgrade from 17 inch - woot) which Im getting on my birthday (along with COH: TOV) at any rate, /end ramble, and is it worth getting for someone who hasn't played the total war series at all before?

Total War is not like any other RTS.

There are 2 distinctive parts to the game.
1. Turn based, Global city and army, construction and management.
2. Real time, Local battlefield tactics.

So you manage your cities and build armies, then move those armies around a map, and when you attack you zoom in a manage the battle like a general might. Another major difference is you can't control individual units, but rather tell whole battalions to move/attack.

Watch this, if it looks fun... go for it.

Looks epic, about to gibe the demo a play.
Am I the only one who thinks a futuristic type thing would be cool? Space battels instead of naval?
Also, if clans could have their own planets and the whole clan could work toghether to expand the clans empire.

Well, the CA guys have sort of followed a chronological order with their games, Shogun, Medieval, Rome, Medieval 2, Empire. So i guess they are not really going to jump to space battles. And plus they relied on realistic and historically accurate data and stuff for their games.

I just got the demo off of Steam and boy-howdy was that cool for my first of the series. I'm pretty rubbish on land but like in BF1942, I love the naval combat.

Well I am losing my claim in France and Spain, some how the Spanish made a huge army out of Rome and attacked the Spanish capital. Then the french besiege paris in the same turn my forces only number enough to take one army. Which should I give up...or I could hold them off and pull back my two full stacks from India

And going from Shogun to Medieval to Rome and then back to Medieval is not chronological order. lmao

I tried to get into the campaign. I really did. One attempt at the last US mission, and one attempt at Sweden. In both cases, after a little over a dozen years, I was deadlocked into a crashing spree. Silly me, I only kept about five savegames on swapout for each campaign to mark progress. Do a few turns, save. Do a few turns, save. Yeah, like that. All but an hour-old one is corrupt.

Click on a port, I crash. Fight a battle without autoresolve, I crash. High detail, crash. Low detail, crash. It's unplayable. Did the QA guys get paid to group-fingerbang? So many people have this sort of problem that it's not just a few configurations.

Honestly, if they wanted to test it, they could've taken it to any random gaming PC and played a full campaign on it. Not just two hours.

Yeah I doubt they played through a normal campaign at all during testing.

No naval invasions by the AI is proof enough of that.

It's a half finished game. I'm not going to really bother with it much more until the next few patches.
