You should know that first-hand experience means nothing here, as you can't source it. Unless of course your experience is in agreement with someone else, then it's OK.

Ok, well then, my opinion on gun control is not to be argued against, and why? "How about" because I live here.

I am guessing that, "because I live here" is not much of a case. Whatcha think?

That's exactly what I'm getting at...people here are pretty ridiculously fickle about accepting first-hand experience on something.

Wasn't a slam on you, lowing.

Gun control isn't something unique to your country.

the Irish opinion of the USA however, is.

Let me try a different approach,

Just because you live in Ireland, does not make you the authority of Irish attitude toward the US. Just like my living in the US does not make me the authority of issues regarding the US.

(Except the French,  all of us Americans pretty much agree the French suck)

No, i get where you're coming from. I'd say the Catholic Irish on a whole like you lot though. And every American i've met in real life seems to like the Irish too, so that's all nice.

And noone likes the French. Nice country though.

"An Irish trading company has been charged with sending helicopter engines and other aircraft parts to Iran, according to an indictment unveiled in a US federal court today. The 25-count indictment charges Mac Aviation of Drumcliffe in Co. Sligo, and three of its officers of buying the components from US companies and sending them to Iran through Malaysia and other countries. The US Justice Department says the recipients included an Iranian military firm, Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industrial, that the United States has designated as a “weapons of mass destruction proliferator” for involvement in Iran’s alleged nuclear and ballistic missile programme. Justice Department officials said they are seeking the arrest and deportation of the Irishmen: 72-year-old company owner Tom McGuinn; his 40-year-old son Sean McGuinn, the sales director; and commercial manager Sean Byrne.

The indictment, or charge sheet, says that in the three years before charges were filed under seal in July 2008, Mac Aviation bought US aircraft engines and parts while concealing that they were ultimately heading to customers in Iran. The indictment charges each of the Mac Aviation officials with two counts of conspiracy, 19 counts of violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and Iranian Transactions Regulations, four counts of false statements and forfeiture allegations. If convicted, the defendants face maximum sentences of 10-20 years in prison for each of the IEEPA counts, 5-20 years in prison for each of the conspiracy counts, and five years in prison for each of the false statement counts."

How you can argue that Ireland is anti-American when for the last eight years our Government has been effectively violating its own neutrality by allowing US military flights to pass through Shannon en route to Afghanistan and Iraq is quite beyond me lowing. Our Government has been tossing America's salad for as long as I can remember. The Irish Government has never been anti-American... in fact the Irish people have never even been particularly anti-American, for the last eight years many were anti-Bush but anti-American? No sir, we're too busy being anti-British! Check out the scenes on the streets of Ireland when Clinton visited or when Obama was elected if you want proof of my claims.

How does the US have jurisdiction over an Irish company?

Is it because the products originated in the US?
If more than 10% of the components for a product are from the US, it can't be sold to Iran.

However, the only real exceptions I can think of to the embargo by the US are aircraft parts that the US allowed Boeing to sell them. If the US make exceptions to sell aircraft parts to them, it can't be that bad....
