Wouldn't that be better solved by addressing the root causes of poverty?usmarine wrote:

My care cup is empty when it comes to Britain being a 'surveillance society'.
It doesn't affect me what-so-ever, I have nothing to hide.

Meh, if it stops chavs stealing old-ladies hand-bags (just as an example) it's fine by me.
Now I see why Alan Moore feels the way that he does.Switch wrote:

True, but all these laws and shit are open for abuse. Remember how they used anti-terror laws against Iceland? Due to the financial crisis and all that, I mean it was all fun and games laughing at the Icelanders and calling them terrorist bastards, but at the end of the day, it was still some serious abuse going on thereSwitch wrote:

Social programs are important, and so is making sure that ex-cons properly integrate back into society. There are so many more cost effective ways to address crime than to turn your society into a fucking Orwellian joke.

There are on top of the traffic lights and on the poles.

I rarely see survelence cameras up here. We Northeners are far too dosile and don't need to be kept in check.m3thod wrote:

The kid on the right looks a little suspect.
We're going to need to water board him. Make sure he's not a sleeper.

Public apathy leading to a country becoming steadily more totalitarian in nature until eventually all public freedom is lost.

Threatened? By what? So I'm on camera, big deal. I don't do anything wrong. I don't commit crimes. So why should I care? Answer: I don't care.
Crime will always be a part of all countries, we will never eradicate it completely: hence minimising it is the only real solution. If CCTV's are part of that solution, then so be it. They can watch me drive my car or walk along the street as much as they want to.
Now, if they are installing cameras in your home, monitoring your phone calls (so long as you aren't calling Waziristan to plan the big jihad), monitoring your internet (so long as you aren't planning the big jihad with someone outside your country), etc...that's a different story altogether.

Cameras in a public place is a tad different than tapping a private phone tbh ...
