Futuremark Unveils Web Browser Benchmark

Futuremark's aim with this benchmark is to put an end to the so-called "browser wars" by removing subjective opinions or analysis of performance with too much room for variability such as loading times.

ZoomTypically, a newly released browser will be subdued to the well known Acid3 web standards test but there are few universally used benchmarks which measure the performance of common web page functions. Peacekeeper is a purely JavaScript-driven benchmark and therefore only tests JavaScript functions. It does not test actual web page loading times and is therefore not affected by connection speeds and the variation that can occur there, nor does it test things like Flash.

The hell?! how do you guys gets such score? I got 415 with Opera. Although I'm on wireless...

Do you guys have t1 lines or does the computer actually make a difference? Whats the overshadowing factor?

That may be unclear. It's perfectly understandable that browser performance depends on hardware quality but there's no point of even talking about the hardware. A single system should run the app on the different browsers and compare the scores for this to be a browser benchmark. Otherwise, with only a handful of browsers to try, this ends up being a closet hardware benchmark and pretty redundant with Futuremark's other products.

For a "subjective" browser benchmark, the final page puts a whole lot of focus on the highest score. All people are going to do now is OC, run Safari, and e-peen.
