The Quebec siege has a hideous performance bug because of the rain effect I think, not sure... it's quite widely reported.

Take Montreal first and hope the AI has the sense to leave Quebec .

I was wondering what that was.

Was pretty bad.

I'm fighting against Britain now... got two states under control.

Could be.

And will do. I always take Niagara and then the French either attack one of my side entities or the fort itself.

Just bear in mind that the Road to Independence campaign is a thinly-veiled introductory tutorial campaign, it doesn't really matter if you lose any forts or positions that you were assigned to take and control in the last objective. Just press onwards, make sure you have the minimum required to do the next objective, and make your way slowly through the awesome-storyline and the slowly-introduced game elements. The Grand Campaign is where the actual gameplay and strategy is at.

There are no words to describe the awesomeness of this game.

I mean, the animations could be a little bit more varied, or say believable, but otherwise

BTW, anyone have tips on moving large armies? Whenever I do a select-all-infantry and move to say the wall of a fort, they like to spread themselves out a mile wide, and sometimes off in random directions.

For now I just select 3 or so at a time, or by type.

Also, any pointers on taking a city/fort? I get absolutely murdered going through the door choke, and climbing the walls seems to a far too confusing task for my troops.

Havent gotton myself a copy of ETW yet, but as a player of all the other in the series the best advice i can give is to smash the shit out of the place with artillery and take down some walls allowing you to attack from as many positions as possible.  Send heavy infantry into the chokes with plenty of light in reserve.  Once the walls are taken, rest your heavy infantry and continue moving forward with light infantry/cavalry.  Bring your heavies back in when theyre back to full strength and rape face.

okay what the fuck man. I had never heard or had problems with a WSoD until I read this post. I got back into the game shortly after, and got my first one in less than five minutes of playing.

Played the demo. My PC can kinda handle it at low. It's playable tbh but yeah... Probably wont get it.

Struck me how much faster combat is in terms of units routing/dying. New and interesting game mechanic imo.

Still waiting on a WW2/Modern day version or something though. ZOMGSCIFI: Total War wouldn't be bad either.

Yeah, I had to download some bullshit update from steam right when I installed it, took me 45 minutes on a pretty damn good internet connection.

To be honest, this is the first highly-anticipated (by my own admission/standards) game that I haven't bought from Steam. For all the reasons stated above and a few more, such as their extortionate price and their lack of customer-understanding. There's a Steam group with several million members protesting against their hideous business-strategy of barely bothering to convert prices from USD to Euro/Pound, and it still seems to be a problem nowadays.

I managed to order the Special Edition from a top UK retailer (Amazon.co.uk) and have a physical copy express-delivered to me on the release-day for £5 less than it is to download the basic edition from Steam. Poor business. Besides, knowing the quality and capability of Steam's servers on important launch days, I wouldn't even be able to 'play' the game on launch-day if I had pre-ordered from their online service. They really have lost the plot... bitten off more than they can chew... got in over their heads... etc.etc. They need a major upgrade to their server structure and business model, they don't hold a unique niche (i.e. digital content platform) anymore.

Is it too much to ask to be able to alt-tab in and out of total war games?

Anyone been able to successfully demand surrender?

I've clicked the button a few times, and it greys out as if it was accepted, but nothing happens. There was no popup to say it was refused...

Nope, not once. Even when I've outnumbered an enemy around 1500 to 300.

Btw, Battle of Bunker Hill =

It's funny though, George Washington died in the French and Indian War but he's back for the American Revolution. He must be like Jesus (aka a Zombie).

The TW games aren't historically accurate at all.
