I love how ridiculous it is that they present the document in such a pointlessly redundant 'old style'. Your country isn't even old enough to have proper heritage, stop trying to act so... European. Those typefaces and the phrasing of that document reeks of something like a 17th century European statute.
A silly nitpick I know, just me being whimsical. I'll read through the bill and actually possibly make a comment after I've had some sleep and regained concentration.

That's lawspeak. It always sounds old. Besides, the US was founded in the 1700s.
Thank you Kmarion! I've been planning on reading this, but I was having a problem finding it a few weeks ago.

It's always been like that. Look at the original copy of the Declaration of Independence.Uzique wrote:

I like it. It reminds me of how a few thousands rebels told the Crown to get lost.
*Our heritage is European.

That's true. The powdered wigs weren't an American invention.Kmarion wrote:

I'd say English, with a German accent - and a bit of everything-else for spice'. With a touch of the King James Bible and Aristotle, just for erudition.Kmarion wrote:

Pretty well describes our language, our heritage, and our culture.
The US was founded in the 16/1700s by Europeans so its not pointlessly redundant. Its legal system and laws where based on European practices. Most legal documents, title deeds etc are all wrote in that style here in Ireland too.Uzique wrote:

The US has plenty of heritage. Perhaps you should lift a book for a change? Back to bed with you.
The only Americans I know that care about their European "heritage" are the "Irish" ones who use it as an excuse to celebrate St.Patricks day as well as an excuse to arm and fund the IRA and various other terrorists groups, and the "Italian" ones who use it as an excuse to bring their bullshit Mafia shit into another country
Other than that, from what I gather, it's pretty much a "fuck Europe we're a different race to those assholes" kind of Mentality that I see..

We do recall our European ancestry, but with about as much seriousness as we recall our astrological signs.Mekstizzle wrote:

Irish/Russian/German/Spanish Gemini here.
Good for a laugh or a stereotype, but.. not much use past that, really.
Edit: and, no, we don't look at Europeans as "those assholes". Except for the Parisians and the younger (post-Berlin Wall) German males. They're assholes.

Nothing wrong with ppl celebrating their heritage. Irish or otherwise. ST Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland which was then partly transported to America with Irish settlers. Its true that St Patrick's day is celebrated more so in the US than in Ireland.Mekstizzle wrote:

You tone is spiteful., perhaps you have no traceable heritage yourself. Unless your native American your heritage is that off an immigrant, like it or not. Perhaps that fact touches a nerve. Personally Id be proud of my forefathers bravely settling in a new world with all the difficulties that came with it.
And, you are of the same race as European unless your immigrant forefathers came from somewhere else. Your genes, heritage, laws and language all stem from Europe. Your constitution was wrote by first & second generation European immigrants who had the memories of being European fresh in their minds.
I am Irish, but my surname and part of my family, 6 generations back are German. I'm happy with that. Its my heritage.
You can only put the future in perspective when you examine the past.
Perhaps your government should have done something about all the death money travelling across the Atlantic to buy guns and bombs? Ted Kennedy has allot to answer for.
Ted Kennedy's list of sins are longer than his bar tab.JahManRed wrote:

Flowers on his grave will always be fresh, considering the number of people in line to spit on his grave.
I'm only pointing out what I see on this forum and alot of other places with regards to how alot of Americans view Europe
And bringing Christianity to Ireland......good or bad thing, you decide....

Face cost of $2500 per capita. Estimated end cost of $10,000 per capita.
Stimulus Package indeed. The American Taxpayer just got bent over and raped.
"no taxation without representation" my sore fuzzy little ass.
[rant]
Fucking baby boomers weren't content to squander their parent's life work, sell our manufacturing to China, spend my generation's college fund on junk, .. now they just sold stock options on my daughter's future. Motherfucking 'boomers burnt through 4 generations worth of resources AND the nation's well-being.. and the assholes are only 2/3rds of the way towards their graves yet.

Do I even want to read the great suicide bill? No.
except I see Euros all over the place with flags of their countries. I even saw a license plate last weekend that said "wales uk" on it. now wtf is that? you all think you are so damn important or something? hell you even see it online in video games. people with (UK), (GER), (SWE), (FRA), etc tags before their names. why? you rarely see a (USA) tag or something like that, yet i see all those other tags as if we are supposed to give a flying fuck where you are from.Mekstizzle wrote:

I have an eight page summary for work. I'd like to put a summary here, but I don't think I'll have time. Google is your friend.
My opinion:
-At a cost of $800B - $500B in spending and $300B in tax relief. Hmmmm....pork.
-$400/year or $1.10/per day in FICA reduction isn't a lot for a stimulus, but it helps
-If you buy a car, you can deduct the sales tax even if you don't itemize
-The first-time homebuyer tax credit was done right this time as opposed to the last time around...it was almost $15,000 and for everyone, not just lower incomes and $8,000
-Education credits are a bit more beefy
-The threshold for the Child Tax Credit was lowered, which I "guess" will offset the birth control expenses.
-Bonus depreciation for businesses is even better
-Longer and elective net operating loss carryback this year...so you can get a refund from previous year's tax if not doing so hot this year.
-Estimated taxes for individuals who own businesses and make a lot of money now only pay in 100% of their tax instead of 110%. This is great.
-Wind energy incentives are good, but the other energy stuff isn't a large enough amount imho.
-Nice incentives for state and local governments.
All this is subject to special rules btw, if you make too much, it gets phased out.
Well, I guess I had time after all...lol
