It will rebound eventually, people will eventually stop panicking. And it will go over 9000 again.
I think it would be nice to see who's doing the trading. Seeing as a handful of people own a ridiculous percentage of stock across industries it would be interesting to see if they are dumping stock and in what sectors. I think it will probably go down to ~6500 but I don't follow it that closely so I really have no idea.
It'll bottom out around 6500.
If it gets below 5500, well...I don't even wanna think about it tbh.

This was on my homepage. I loled.

No point in guessing.
Six months ago half the people here were saying it was media hype and not that big a deal. How the first contraction in credit markets since the 1930s wasn't going to be a big deal is confusing to me.

Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
You cannot predict the depths of irrational thought ... the markets just reacting to the Obama Administration's solution of throwing spaghetti against the wall and seeing what sticks.
Just watch the consumer confidence numbers and once those start to rise again then you'll know that the markets will be on the upswing.

Ah, but there will be real confidence until the government stops spending borrowed money.
until the out sourcing of u.s. jobs becomes sane
until there is integrity in the financial sector ( see madoff )
And then there is the inflation that is sure to come in spades when all this printed money goes into circulation.
That will do a major blow to consumer confidence.

I saw that too, lol. Obama is going to magically cut the deficit in half, didn't you hear?
I don't know how the hell he plans to do that. Sure, spending will be cut in Iraq...but we'll be refocused in Afghanistan.
Certainly one hell of a daunting task.
once the feds stop burning our tax dollars, it will stop falling
Predicting this sort of thing is as hard as predicting how high a boom will be.

Oh i remember the days when the DOW Jones was over 14,000 and the FTSE 100 was around the 7500 mark.
You mean like about one year ago?
Hopefully, the bottom will be a realization that the current corporate structure is institutionalized sociopathy.
When a corporation is legally obligated to pursue profits for their stockholders at the expense of any and all other concerns, something is fundamentally wrong.
The point of a sustainable, sane company is to make a reasonable profit for the owners and employees, and a reasonably priced, durable, quality product for the customer. All else is a cancer in the system.
Employees, Owners, and Customers - NOT anonymous shareholders with no company loyalty past the current stock ticker.

I'd say around 4500. That's when the riots start.

Investing in the stock market is basically as financially sound as buying a lottery ticket.
The market has been a daisy chain of bubbles. With each bubble building on the prior bubble until the idiots decided to create a commodity bubble. Unfortunately for everyone in the REAL economy, we depend of commodities to create real products. When commodity prices got out of control, it caused a cascade effect and basically shut down the economy.
I think the bottom is around 4500 and the reason for that is that I think the first bubble was was the dot.com bubble which started in 1995.
Since the bubbles have burst the DOW should return to its 1995 pricing which was around 4500. Its really stupefying to think that from 1900 to 1995 the DOW went from 100 to 4500 and then from 1995 to 2006 it went to 14000.
here's a really good DOW chart
PS its kind of funny watching these idiots trying to create a new gold bubble, my only fear is that they will succeed in spreading that bubble fever back into the oil and gas commodities. If that happens you can kiss any recovery good bye, it will be worse than the depression.

The stock market DJIA =/= the economy.

According to my very limited economic understanding, share price should represent a multiple of earnings, plus a bit for companies expected to increase their earnings in the future by better competition or developing a better product or business model.
This whole business of trading shares because you think the price might be about to go up or down is madness and leads inevitably to bubbles and busts.
Plus the weird financial vehicles people have put together, derivatives, margin trading and a whole bunch of other stuff are pretty clever but boil down to nothing as we have seen.
Solution:
Ban anything other than straight buying and selling of shares, and put a 2% tax on every trade to cut out the short-termists.

If you keep your job and you don't own stocks, lower stock prices make you wealthier.
I'm confident they'll go up again.
i reckon he is the next unabomber. although we would need a new name for it since i doubt he would go after universities or airlines.Kmarion wrote:
