Yeah, I'd say 1.4 is the maximum you should go but ideally look for a 1.2, Corsa, Fiesta, Ka etc etc.. you know the typical ones

dunno i started with a 1.6 focus.

insurance was expensive but not much more than if it was a 1.4

How old are you? How many years NCB do you have? (If any of course) How many years had you had a full license for?

Examples, Ford Ka as said (ugly as sin, but economical to own/maintain) Peugot 106, Renault Clio etc.
