Changing my CD Key for BF2

I've been banned from so many EU servers now it's becoming a joke, some i deserved, some i didn't. And now when i come to play BF2 with some friends i can't get on half the servers....so i bought a new copy of BF2 (i actually bought the deluxe version for £9.99). I heard you can just change the CD key on my current installation to the new CD key i bought today.

Can anyone explain how?

Also, the other thing to do is just install from fresh (including all the expansions i probably won't play) and just log in with my account details i use on my current BF2 right?

There's one sure fire way to change your current BF2 installation's CD key, and that is via registry.

Open Run, which can be found in Accessories for Vista users, type in regedit.

A big window should pop up that edits the registry. Careful here, one wrong click can be a doozy! :x

Browse to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc" and highlight "ergc" in the left pane. Look at the encrypted key in the right pane (long string) next to "(Default)". If it does NOT begin with "x9392", continue on to step 3.

Right click (or double click) on "(Default)" in the right pane, select "Modify" from the context menu, type "x9392" at the beginning of the "Value data" then add your new BF2 key and click "ok".

It should work. I've done this numerous times, and the registry way always works. There's also the Battlefield 2_code.exe program in the Prog Files BF2 support folder, but sometimes it doesn't keep the key in registry, so it comes up with invalid CD key when trying to play.

"After re-entering your CDKEY you must then reapply the latest patch in order for it to be encrypted into the registry." They say if you use that program and patch however, it will stick in the registry. Completely forgot about that. So you may not need to work with the registry, just try the program located here:

DRIVE:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\Support\Battlefield 2_code.exe

I used the above and it appears to have worked, tho it errored the first time but i think i fucked up entering my new CD key, but it patched ok second time round.

So as Cyrax (i love you btw) says, navigate to <insert drive name here>\Programme Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\Support\Battlefield 2_code.exe and enter in your new CD key as if you was doing a new installation and click next. Then re-patch with 1.41.

I am using Vista 32. Depending on which version of Windows you're using, there'll be slight differences to finding the necessary programs needed.

11. Add x93929 to the white box.

12. Type in BF2 CD key after x93929, no space between key and x93929. So it'd look like x93929xxxxxxxxx

13. Click OK to seal the deal.

14. Close Registry Editor.

15. Play and enjoy.

Why bother with all the registry editing, when EA delivered a tool for it?
(Also for SF in a similar folder, but I don't know how keys are handled with the deluxe edition.)

Same for me, and I have the Complete Collection DVD with SF. Tried that tool to fix my problem, but even after repatching, it still didn't work. Regedit was the only way for getting my SF to work on Vista.

There's an utility called Battlefield CD Key Manager which allows you to save/change and encrypt BF2/142 key in registry (so you don't need to use a whole patch if you want to keep your CD-Key protected). This tool is from pbbans.com so its safe...Battlefield CD Key Manager

Why is the one from your link hosted on Rapidshare then?
Infected with a worm that sends CD keys back to the author, perhaps?

I wouldn't trust such programs.

Because only registered users can download it from pbbans, so i reuploaded it on rapid. But they are both the same, you can compare their CRC's .

This should work.

Fix for invalid CD Key (or enter new key).

First look in your battlefield 2 support folder and start
Battlefield 2_code.exe to reenter you Key

Then

1. Start the patch program again (1.41 patch) (no this is not a reinstall - keep reading)
2. Select your language
3. At the "welcome-screen", do not proceed!.
4. Keep the patch-window open and go to your start menu, select "run".
5. Enter %temp%
6. Search for BF2CDKeyCheck.exe
7. Double click BF2CDKeyCheck.exe
8. You won't notice anything at this point.
9. Now your CD-KEY troubles are over.
