Two very different 'schools' and styles of comedy really, to generalize.

America has had some amazing stand-up comedians, as has Britain. Different styles in both cases. To be honest I don't think the nationality has a huge influence on the individual's own comedic style and brilliance. Although having said that I don't think any other group, society or 'school' in the US or UK can compare to the Cambridge Footlights.

That was brilliant (both seasons). Especially that little girl. Virtually every time she spoke I could hardly stop myself laughing.

Yep, fantastic child acting.

I think the premise of that show is one of the things that makes brit com so good, it takes normal scenarios and highlights the underlying mental bits

I've heard loads of it, particularly the stuff by the children, is improvised.

The thing I like most about Britcoms, is they are often quite dark and cynical.

Yeah heard the same thing, makes it better tbh. And if the stuff by the girl is mostly improvised, 1) she's literally a genius, and 2) she's got a big future in acting/comedy

It all depends on your sense of humor. So it's not like one is objectively greater than the other, it's all subjective.

That being said, even though I'm 100% American and never even been across the pond, I do find the British much more funnier. (Except when it comes to shows like Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and much of Dave Chappelle's stuff)

Personally I think including The Mighty Boosh in that canon of British comedy culture is a crime.

Give it 5 years and no one will give a shit about TMB.

Americans would rather watch their fake reality shows than have a true humor sitcom.  Id go ahead and say the brits have the better humor sitcoms but that really isn't saying much...  It seemed really immature and horribly unfunny, but that beats the lack of shows we have here.  Although we have better cartoons, ect.. (adult swim) . Also our stand up seems superior.

I remember watching an irish copy of cops, and during some holiday in their armored police vehicle they were getting molotovs thrown at them and didnt do anything? they just let them throw fire bombs and rocks for a good 20 minutes and then just dusted them off as "just kids"..  I also remember another show where these little kids stole alcohol and wanted to trade for cigarettes. Later one kids bunny was thrown out of some building because of his best friend and then he killed him? They were like 8..... weirdest shit ever.. silly brits.
does your second paragraph have any relevance to the topic at all?
No, just giving more details about European t.v. shows some Americans might not have known.  Sorry?

Half of it didn't even make sense. I don't watch the American version and write random shit about your country based on the half hour I watched that show...
