Excellent choice if you can bump your budget up a bit.  4850s are easily one of the better cards out at the moment.  Mine does quite well for everything I use it for.  Nvidia may have changed around a bit since I last checked when I bought my 4850, just my suggestion.

8800GT and 9800GT are practically the same thing.  If I were you get the 1GB versions of ether the 8800GT or 9800GT.

Computer specs :
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe
AMD X2 5200+
7600GT (current)
2Gb ram
450watts psu
Windows xp

Whats  difference does it make between  a 512/1GB video card? I use it for gaming and 3D rendering.

oh and what about a 9800GTX ? I know 8800gtx where very good...

PSU specs? Like how many amps on the 12v rail(s)?

9800GTX isnt much faster than the 8800GTX... And the ATi HD4850 is faster than the 9800GTX accept for Crysis (its heavily optimized for nVidia). I think it also takes less power than the 9800GTX

And for this range of cards, 512MB should be fine, unless you have a high res monitor eg 1920x1200

The 8800gt has been quite good for me. There isn't a game yet it can't handle well other than crysis.

tbh HD4850 sounds like your best option. New card, low price, fantastic performance/price ratio

Is your 7600GT AGP? If so you'll get ~£50 on e-bay. That's what I did.

If you look up his motherboard, you'll see that it's PCI-e.

you can actually get an 8800GT and turn it into a 9800GT with a BIOS flash as long as its the 512mb version.

Or save more and wait till march for the 5850 apparently jsut a rumor but the ill be 2 GPUS on a single PCB and a single die

9800GT is a great card, I have the XFX version, runs BF2 excellently, runs CoD4 at ~60FPS maxed @ 1600X1200, I'm about to see how well Fallout 3 runs.

I have the 512MB version, I don't see the need for the 1GB, and I have a 1920X1200 display, but I don't run my games in that display, usually 1-3 sizes smaller.

However, I'd suggest upgrading the PSU to ~500W, the box says it needs a minimum of 400W, with a 12V current rating of 26A.  (XFX Recommended says 500W for non-SLi, and 600W for SLi.)

I bought this PSU when I bought my card.
