90's Hondas cost us a SHITLOAD to insure.VicktorVauhn wrote:

But early 90s honda accord sedan with a 5 speed.
Cheap, reliable, room for friends, fun enough to help you learn how to handle a car better, good on gas, not too rare, insurance should be low, inconspicuous so cops don't fuck with you...
Jord forget about anything higher than 1.4l, you'll get buttfucked on insurance.
Stick to
Corsa, Fiesta, Yaris, Punto, Clio, etc for the first 2-3 years then when your insurance is actually a fair price you can get a bigger car if needs be.
Getting a bigger sized engine will also set you back a lot in fuel.

Clio's are nice. Probably imo the nicest you can get for a first car.
Punto's aint bad either.
No, if shit is to your liking. The Sheriff wrote:

Every Punto my friends have had has turned out to be a disaster in terms of surprise visits to the shop.
I need around tree fiddy.
My mate had one and he let me drive it a few times, it's a nice car, especially if you're 18 and won't get insured on anything bigger than a leafblower.
Edit: His was a 01 reg IIRC and he didn't have any probs with it.

Oh THAT Punto (it's good looking too). But you can't get one for under £1000, can you? (Ref:OP)The Sheriff wrote:

well id stick to small capicity fords renaults peugeots and vauxhalls, oh and average insurance costs on most first cars are around £2-3000 per year fully comp and probs only 500 cheaper TPFT so itll cost you more for insurance than the car.
Dear God please let my karma one day reach 100, whether it be tomorrow or 1000 years in the future i want it to happen.

Slight exaggeration if we're honest. Mine is £1800 pr/an Fully Comp. and that's only because I drive a 1.5T. Most of my mates are insuared for under £1000.wensleydale8 wrote:

And to think, some people spend more on their PC's here
Don't buy that, 161K miles, 18 years old and it's a 1.6, Jord would be paying through the roof to insure himself on that.Mint Sauce wrote:

Okay I'm awake now.
Ya I want a manual, and I'm also not massive on the Ford Ka, it's ugly.
Amazing that already 3 of the links provided have been removed, shit sells fast...
Oh and yes insurance will rape me, anally, twice, whichever car I chose.

Yeah, unless you have a mum or dad with which you can do your insurance with, (and they have no claims etc..) insurance will be a bitch. Even if you want a 1.2
Ford Ka's are a nice drive, they're only ugly if you get the basic version with the bumpers that aren't even the same colour as the body etc...

Get a Renault Clio.
I drove a '93 Civic, beauty, but pretty darn expensive. Especially when you need parts, cause it´s japanese.
But Renault is good, especially the older ones. Fairly well done, cheap in insurance and gas, plus if something should brake, the parts arn´t too expensive cause there are plenty, even if you need to ship them from France. And the 90 ones are so easy to maintain and repair, you can do most things on your own.
My mom drives a '84 Renault 4 and my dad bought a complete new engine and shit for like 400€, including shipment.lol
very similar to this one:
Even in the same color.
You can get one of those for like 300€ and they run by 3-5 ltr on 100km, but you have to do the occasional thing.
Just don´t get no Twingo! They start to lose parts when approaching 140 km/h! Seriously!
edit: Or look for VW Golf or Polo. Cheap as fuck (new bumper for like 45€.lol)

Depends. I assume that he has no intend on racing due to cost, so he drives defensive. The old cars are pretty good due to quite big crush zones. many of them even have an airbag.Lieutenant_Jensen wrote:

I thought older cars crumble together real easy in collisions and with the lack of airbag...Sisco10 wrote:

I don't know how big of a car you can buy in England, but I suggest buying the biggest car you can find for a first car. If you can learn to drive something huge well, you'll be able to drive anything.
Nah, depends heavily on the type and what plating they used. My Honda was rather small, but I hit a tree frontal once with like 45 km/h. New hood, new bumper, new crossbar. But the crush zone was so nice, the cooler didn´t have a scratch.Lieutenant_Jensen wrote:

Older cars, especially the not so shitty ones (unlike Fiat Seicento) use thicker plating, cause the metal wasn´t so expensive. But almost every mid-90 car has an airbag (except for my Honda )
really really weird driving position. it's like driving a van, can't explain it.The Sheriff wrote:

Dont get one of these tho, you'll have a bitch to get insured, get a 1.2L sound cars to have.
get a 1990's mercedes or bmw and ride in style
Have a look for a Peugeot 206 LX, around 1999. It's a 1.9l but only group 5 insurance (nissan micra 1.0l is group 4...), isn't massively powerful but it is faster (top end) than a piddly Ka or Micra and accelerates better too, sounds a bit like a tractor being a diesel but you get massive mileage (50-55mpg motorway, 35-40 in town) compared to a petrol, comfy too and cheap to repair and service. (You may have guessed I drive one )

And an 18 year old car with 161K miles on it wouldn't be a good idea for a cheap first car? How much would it cost to insure over there? The Sheriff wrote:
