they won't give them a different pistol at all - look what they did with the heavy, he got a sandwich in place of a shotgun, so one could assume the soldier and engy will get something completely different also.Havok wrote:
I just realized that the scout will be the first class that has a pistol to get upgrades. I'm curious to see Valve's creativity.

Great, now everyone will go scout
Too many scouts suck when defending goldrush or dustbowl. Awesome when you are the only one though

Also the Pyro got a flaregun, not a S.P.E.C.I.A.L. shotgun.Acreta wrote:

Was that part of yesterday's 'invisible' update?Spidery_Yoda wrote:

Because I shot a medic with 100% ubercharge in the face a few days ago, and he died without much ceremony.
I wish I could be that entertaining.Flecco wrote:

But yes, this is cool! I am more and more appreciative of every coming patch when they spend their time on such highly-refining updates as this! I always thought in between playing an unbalanced game and seeing my FPS deteriorate that I needed a crackling medic-corpse decal!Fail wrote:
Yeah when you kill a Medic with full charge his entire body will be enveloped in Kritzkrieg style lightning for a bit. It's cool.

The thing is, this TF2 update process is starting to take the piss a bit, the competitive community don't know what is happening to the game they have invested so much time and effort into. Originally it was going to be an extra update for each class- giving them some better weapons (-but NOT weapons that give unfair advantages or change the classes fundamental role) and then thus enriching pub/comp play. 'X' number of months later and the update process is still not even halfway done; half the classes now have weapons and additional functions that make them either a) unbalanced and advantageous in some form or another or b) preferred and overplayed by the community. The balance that they playtested and worked so hard to achieve at retail launch has now been effectively ruined, and with all this new arbitrary changes to mechanisms that were working just fine before... meh. Spies didn't struggle before with a bit of skill and effort, now everyone in publics is playing Spah because it's easy as shit. This is not what the competitive community imagined the 'TF2 Updates' would be.
I'm unhappy enough about the fact that classes such as Medic have had really decent guns such as the Blutslaughter for half a year now, whereas other centrally-important classes have to make do with default weapons that fail in comparison. They've just fucked off to work on gimmicky 3-month lifespan games like Left 4 Dead whilst leaving a genuine goldmine to collapse because of new financial opportunities: TF2 was being awarded and hailed as the 'next big' competitive FPS game, but now it just seems to be a 'toss the community a bone when we're not busy making money elsewhere' project. I fear it'll be another year before the beta/early retail balance is even restored, and I dread to think what game changes and class changes will have been (unnecessarily) made by that point also. Rank 5 sentries and Snipers with full-auto rifles, no doubt! But yes, this is cool! True, the comp-fags hated it because it "takes no skill to play", the comps only want games where the gameplay is all about how quick you can shoot, which is unlike TF2 which requires such "nooby" things like strategy, teamwork.Spidery_Yoda wrote:
I was under the impression that the competitive community laughed at TF2. I knew there was one but they were small.
Other things: If leagues dont want the new 'unbalanced' weapons then they can make a rule not to use them, like they did with crits. Also I thought the Spy was never used in competitive play so the change makes no difference.
Yes its taking a while but thats life. Nothing wrong with bringing out new games.
What are you talking about? Be quiet please.DoctaStrangelove wrote:

Pubs on the otherhand, well are just epic win tbh.
Look, most guys who pleh TF2 pleh in pubs and only pubs. And as such Valve has a responsibility to support the majority of their community. And just look at the updates, aside from the no-crits option, has Valve did any update that makes the game more suitable for competitive pleh? No. All the updates have been focused at the average public player. And the class updates and all the extra particle effects and shit make the game more fun for the casual players.Uzique wrote:

The competitive community for TF2 is more than big enough in Europe and North America- based on the fact that the game requires solid teamwork, completely the opposite of what you said. Not every 'professional' or sponsor-level gamer is a Quake/Unreal veteran with a penchant for hitscan gameplay and twitch shooting. There is a solid competitive playerbase and community that I daresay have sustained TF2 during the low periods when all the pubnubs fuck off to L4D or whatever other passing phase they throw their money at, and furthermore the competitive community have instigated and triggered many beneficial changes, fixes and tweaks for the game that have benefited everyone.
Sure, we're a minority of players. Egotistical and smug? Can't speak for everyone, for some perhaps yes. Even though keeping the pub majority is a priority, you have to consider the strikeoff between someone that will play and popularize your game for 4 hours a day for the next 6 months, and a random casual gamer that will perhaps drop by the game for a few hours every fortnight and still feel entitled to whine and have changes made.
True, the reason we play games is to have fun.DoctaStrangelove wrote:

And why would anyone want to play competitively anyway? You're turning what is a game, a passtime, stuff you do to have fun into a job and obligation. You make playing not about having fun but about winning. It's stupid.
Yeah, now read my last post in an effort to not look like a stupid dick.Dookie0119 wrote:

are you just basing that statement of what uzique said? i used to play competetive tf2, and everyone is open to change, but when classes get a perk/unlock whatever to discriminate against another class (ie, natasha was PURELY an anti-scout weapon), it just ruins the game, what im afraid they will do is make a food chain, ie heavy > scout > something else which will just wreck the balance systemSpidery_Yoda wrote:
