Poseidon is jumping to conclusions. I'm not sure if I'd want him working around ICBM's .

lol, my mom doesn't like the idea either. Then again, she doesn't like the idea of me driving, so...Kmarion wrote:

I worked around ICBM's, and many of the people I worked with on those things were scary to say the least. Poseidon seems fairly stable compared to them actually. Scary thought isn't it.Kmarion wrote:

Blah blah writing style.. pathetic .. (you've read soooo much over your years -you could distinguish Hemingway from Hawthorne).... I'm actually comforted a bit Obie lied you (and me) about his intentions during the election. No where as much "change" promised and was advertised. Tricked the simpletons (me being one too there).Poseidon wrote:

I love how you tried to mask your writing style. Pretty pathetic. Still butthurt over the election, huh? So called "adults" on these forums sure love to act like little children.
Considering my recruiter has someone working with ICBMs from a high school near me and who has similar grades to me, and the fact that if I enlist I'd go for missile defense/missile systems/space systems/nuclear weapons, I'd say I'd atleast be working around it or be in the same field as it.
But if you wanna try and shoot me down just because you don't like that I'm an Obama fan, that's cool. Again - really shows a lot about you.
i worked near nukes. that helps your statement i think. lolLividBovine wrote:

-really show a lot about you? Yea, it does.. I hate liars. There one that comes to mind who's lies were bought into by more than half of America. At least I had the good sense not to vote for him..... You voted for a differently packaged hillary. And still can't see the difference. O BAh ahaha ma! (sheep call).
Act like children? Because I called you on your BS 'IF I...' statement? Your recruiter will tell you whatever you want to hear. I won't . If I gave a shit about you, I'd tell you to get your MOS in WRITING from the recruiter.
Butthurt? Yea... Who's the child?..Poseidon wrote:

Yes, I HOPE TO work around a weapons system like this. I did not say I'm GOING TO, because there is no guarantee that no matter how hard that I work I'll be able to. Hence why I said "there's a good chance" and not "I'm going to".
Again, for someone who prides himself on being an adult, you certainly act like an immature child on these forums just because someone has an opposing political view.
Don't worry about the fact that I'm not even a liberal nor am I a democrat though. You can continue to ignore those facts as long as they kill your already asinine argument.

Semantics. Look at me everybody! IF I.... Don't be a dip shit and join under false pretenses. Get it in writing. Shit, maybe you should hurry up and join so that the military can benefit from your infinite wisdom.
You aren't a dem? Ok I believe that about as much as I believe that you'll join the military too.

That is actually a good point regarding Alaska and Russia, however, the question still stands, does it have that capability? Its not going to take that long for a missile to cross that distance, in the meantime, the launch has to be detected, for which someone will have to activate the MKV, which then has to fire towards the incoming missile of the enemy and then take it out.Uzique wrote:
I think his point is that Cuba don't have the capability nowadays, what with the Soviet bloc being long-dead... not that he lacks understanding of modern history.SEREVENT wrote:

Ever heard of it? Sure it was the Soviets that put the missiles there, but who's to say someone else won't?
I would think they're designing the system for that sorta efficacy, Snake. I mean Russia->Alaska isn't such a great distance compared to Caribbean->Southern US city, no? They'd be insane to spend all that money on a system that lacked the capability.
Don't think it turns them nuclear, otherwise there would be a lot of EMP disruption every time one was hit.haffeysucks wrote:
wouldn't blowing up a nuke in the atmosphere completely fuck over the entire world?

well, without getting too technical and speaking only of russian missiles and warheads:Kmarion wrote:
"With tracking data from the Ballistic Missile Defense System and its own heat detecting sensor".. sounds like on the ground tracking. Less likely to be jammed. I'm sure they include some we haven't heard of as well.
By just getting into the vicinity they could us their own jamming capabilities (or emp's) ..they could shut down the incoming missiles all together. I doubt their capabilities will just be limited to direct interception. The possibilities are endless. Getting them up and operational was/is the hard part.
you know why those missiles called "ballistic", don't you? their "guidance systems" work for a minute or maybe two right after they leave the atmosphere. once the course is set they release the dummy targets they carry - iirc in case of SS-18 Satan, for example, that amounts for several hundreds pieces of space junk for any ABM system to play with - then their engines stop (goodby infra-red seeker devices) and inertia takes them to the re entry point. so, as i said, by the time any ABM stuff gets close there's nothing to jam.Kmarion wrote:
The jamming involves disrupting those guidance systems that rely on those star patterns. Simply put, if it is electronic it can be manipulated by other systems. .. no matter how archaic the guidance system is.
flawed or not, i guess we all agree that we'd better of never seeing ABM system out there being used to intercept real ballistic missiles. let US continue their can shooting - i don't care as long as they keep a level head. this world is about to stop paying for US military toys anyway, so let them mess around while they still can - this only means that my friends working at russian military factories will keep their jobs.Kmarion wrote:
This is just the beginning. No system will ever fully protect a country. But as I said before, by at least lessening the impact you will maintain a strategic advantage. No one could have ever predicted some of today's modern defense systems 50 years ago. That is because innovation prevailed in the face of what other called "flawed from the beginning."
