I hope so though, this is definitely looking like one of the best mods since Garry's Mod.
Nah. They've officially acknowledged that the mod exists and say they're excited to play it. It was a while ago, but thats irrelevant.

Congratulations to the Black Mesa for Half-Life 2 MOD team for picking up the Most Anticipated MOD Award for the coming year from Mod DB. Over 80,000 votes were cast for MODs built for a number of different games, and they have been crowned this year's most wanted. More information on this ambitious project to recreate Half-Life 1 from scratch in the Source engine is available on their site. We're as eager to play it here as everyone else.

When can we expect a release? Q1, Q2, Q3, or Q4 of 09'?

Well, I was being facetious, but that's a pretty cool thing to read. They've always acknowledged the modding communities work but that's one step further. Good on them.

I wouldn't say Q1 or 2. Put a bet on Q3 or 4.

I'm definitely looking forward to this mod.  But, if you ask me I think Valve should endorse this mod as well and help it along through steam news.

That might put a bit more pressure on the modders than they would like.

Is there anything more flattering than a bunch of people who spent most of their free time (without being paid) while recreating a milestone of yours you sat over a decade ago?!

I´m sure valve is willing to offer support if the mod team is willing to take any.

I would pay to play this game! Seriously. HL1 was damn straight outstanding, unlike Hl2, which I had high hopes for but it dissappointed me with too much gameplay lenghts and an obscure story.
