Iranian dissidents: Iran did stop its weapons program in 2003 — and restarted it in 2004 I guess NIE was right.

Do people really think that they aren't developing nuclear weapons? I mean, to argue that they have they right to, and to argue that they aren't are two different things. It might be time for a new poll.

Israel could stop Iran.  Iran wants nukes to help bring the 12th imam, so there's nothing that will stop that desire.
Iran wants nukes so they could be the regional top dog without interference from the west.  nothing religious about it.

if im not mistaken, the shiites believe that the 12th imam is already here and has been "hidden" for centuries

they might also want control of mecca, but only because of what the signifies in the middle east and the rest of the world.

Oh I agree, but the 12th imam is a mechanism to keep the religious elements happy whether he's coming or "hidden".

I don't think anyone could stop Iran from gaining nukes if they really wanted to. Everyone could cripple the country via other means though, and if they do it now, then you could get the country to vote out Dinner Jacket when it's in a dire economic situation due to sanctions and shit (unlikely, he's probably going to do a Mugabe)

At the end of the day, you just have to ask why do Iran want nukes in the first place, and what can be done to stop that desire.

I believe intelligence analysts over the National Council for Resistance in Iran (kind of reminds me of the Iraqi National Congress and their false evidence).

The U.S. and the European Union list both the NCRI and Mujahedin e-Khalq as terrorist organizations.
A former U.S. intelligence official who works closely with the White House on Iran said that all the intelligence related to the NIE was being reassessed and that information coming from sources such as the NCRI would be included. "You have to take seriously what they say, but you also have to realize that they have gotten things wrong," the official said.

Representatives of the National Security Council and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence both said they wouldn't speculate on how any new intelligence on Iran may be utilized. "We stand by the NIE assessment, which is the consensus view of all our intelligence agencies," said Ross Feinstein, a DNI spokesman.

They already have stopped it.

Tightening sanctions, which appear to be working, should help to consolidate that. More dialogue concerning civil nuclear power generation is also something he has on the table and is a promising angle.

So that's a no. You believe without a doubt that they are not currently working on a bomb.

Not gay for Obama, sorry.  Didn't vote for him and don't support his position on Iran.  You did vote for him, so perhaps YOU are gay for Obama.

It doesn't matter what I believe - but what does matter is that the US goes through the proper channels to deal with Iran - that being the UN (if they are actively pursuing a bomb in violation of the NPT), or diplomatically, not through rhetoric.
