Actually Arab sentiment regarding America has been understood at least since the Eisenhower Administration, and repeated interventionist acts in the Arab world by Administrations since then has influenced that. "The Great Satan" was a phrase that came to common usage by way of Iranian speeches from the late '70s and early '80s, not within the last 20 years or at all a direct result of Clinton foregin policy. Perhaps the issue of distorted history lies with you and not the "Blue side".GraphicArtist J wrote:

"Plain ol" George Bush had just as much power as Obama will have to change the general view. Whether or not the detrimental acts to change that worldview were actually George's doing is irrelevant as far as this conversation, because going by what people from other countries on here think, GWB is/was responsible for the deterioration of "America's good name".GraphicArtist J wrote:
Plain ol Obama hardly has the power to change the general view of America. The "world's stage" is a cold, sad place, hardly enough love to say "Hello" to an American, much less giving us a "Good name" And yes, you can quote me on that.
Before Bush we already had a bad name. Sure Bush did give it a blacker eye, but Clinton sure riled up Arab Extremists to declare America "The Great Satan" and have Americans dead. But of course, it's still the Republican's fault at giving America a bad name because the Blue side says so.

Well he's a decorated Vietnam veteran with a keen interest in the conflict who made a film about JFK and I'm sure done quite a lot of research on his subject so he knows as much as the next guy I guess.usmarine wrote:

Of course he will to a large degree, there is really no doubt. The question is whether it is warranted.

You were in the armed forces, and by other people's post (who have also been in armed forces), soldiers are all in for the humanitarian help and the unquestioned desire to free oppressed people everywhere.usmarine wrote:

On an Islanders forum I'm on, there's a few Danish (we've got the only Danish player in the league) and Swiss fans...they said people actually were partying in the streets and crying because of Obama's win where they were.
This is so fucking huge. As if you all didn't know.
