Imagine if John McCain had whispered somewhere that he was willing to bankrupt a major industry? Would this declaration not immediately be front page news? Well, Barack Obama actually flat out told the San Francisco Chronicle (SF Gate) that he was willing to see the coal industry go bankrupt in a January 17, 2008 interview. The result? Nothing.

I guess the point with this is to force companies to use a better/more green way of producing energy? What Is the evil part about that? New technology creates new jobs and soo on..... This is the 21st century, we DO have better technology then in the stoneages, burning coal, wood or oil for energy is really not a good solution.

Coal companies have developed technology which makes its use much more clean. Obama's position goes far beyond forcing them to change their production. Nuclear would be much better than coal, but of course our favorite liberals have opposed that too.

More convserative muckraking. Why is this an issue? Clean coal isn't affected by this since it doesn't emit enough greenhouse gasses to be taxed prohibitively. Obama's position only forces older coal technologies out of business.

I personally like clean coal better than nuclear as there's no toxic waste left over. But if our favorite conservatives insist on using it, we can probably find a good place to dump it. Since Palin informed us that some areas of the US are less patriotic than others, we'll find some area that once seceded from the country (obviously VERY unpatriotic) and dump it there. How about the Carolinas?

What he likely meant was if you build a conventional coal fired power plant you will go bankrupt paying for the carbon. the statement was in the context of 100% cap and trade system.

Obama needs to realise that nuclear is where it's at. On another note however I might add that one colossal solar plant in the New Mexican desert could probably power the entire United States of America. Fact.

Thoose thousands could get new jobs maintaining/producing better energyalternatives....The thing is...why would the coalcompanies swap technology while they still make money with their old shit?

This is why laws and reforms should always favor the new and more enviromentfriendly alternatives. Eventually they will make the same ammount of ridicilous money since wind and water = almost free and has unlimited access, but then again...why bother since people don´t care and still pay them their money?

And I´m aware of the impact that the newer technologies has on the enviroment...but really, what is worse, a coal mine the size of manhattan or some white towers with fans on top in the wasteland?

US laws and guidelines considering the enviroment is soo far behind they almost outclass the gunlaws.....
