Are you planning on Ocing? If so, just grab an e8400 and maybe get a better heatsink for the extra money, because there is very minimal difference between the E8400, and the E8500. Amirite?

Was actually considering that. As for ocing, I dunno. Maybe in the futue if I have nothing to do. I guess $20 bucks doesn't justify 3.00 to 3.16.
As for the PSU, I'd rather get the OCZ 600watt version, for 10 bucks more (its got more feedback as well).

As for the rest of this system, how would it perform?

OC'ing E8400 to E8500 speed is easy as pie and won't require any extra cooling.
HD4870 raeps
P5Q Pro raeps and you can add in another HD4870 when needed or wanted
The PSU, 520HX raeps
Bigger HD = faster HD + more space. I just prefer spinpoints so picked one.
That RAM is amongst the best you can get for that price

Add an aftermarket cooler (that won't hurt the budget much) and you're set to OC the E8400 to 4+GHz

All this should be around $850 after MIR's.

hey... don't be hating the Asus HD 4850 guys... it is a great card. I get 100€ for doing a favor to one guy in the army (weekend in the base so he can leave). Not bad hehe... So I might get the 4850

edit: and.... if he does need more power... HD 4850 Crossfire is great bang for buck.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. lol hehe... but tbh 4850 does not run too hot to use. Even in CF.... so no worries. 4850 CF also beats HD 4870 by miles...
