Because your topic is asking an absolutely absurd what-if, like a five-year-old that keeps asking "why?". This thread is not about whether Rick Astley could be the next president of the U.S., it is about whether the extremely poor quality of candidates on both sides (in some people's opinion) could lead to a feasible opening for a grass roots and/or third party candidate. To think that not a single person out of 300 million would vote is preposterous, to think that a nobody could win a presidential election is becoming more and more reasonable.

I predict in the next 20 or so years there will be a good environment for a candidate like this, particularly if the Republicans manage to get another GWB into office in that time frame. If someone could get support based off being a "real conservative" or a "real liberal" and saying fuck the party line while maintaining many of their general ideals, then I do think they could be elected, but not in 2008.
