artifacts or bug?

Recently after I installed the new patch I have been getting strange patches of black randomly in the game. These patches of black are shown in the following screenshots.

I was wondering if this was some kind of bug or artifacts from my graphics card, I haven't really noticed anything in any other games.

yeah, every single settings is either off or low, do those look like high quality graphics?

I believe it is a Patch 1.2 problem.

I had not seen it before the patch, now I get it almost every game. I have tried turning the graphics down to ridiculoosly low levels and installed better drivers (Omegadrive). It helps some, but every once in a while the whole scope view goes black.

The patch has serious issues with ATI cards (mine is a Radeon 9800 Pro).
According to the official site they are trying to fix these problems with patch 1.21.

Hopefully the fix will be good, but I'm getting a new card in a month or two anyway.
My computer has reached the "last big upgrade" stage before I build a new rig in a couple of years.
The MB is a P4P800 Deluxe, so I'll get 2GB of low-latency RAM, an X-Fi sound card and a 7800GS AGP GPU.

I down-clocked my gfx card and installed a different driver. Haven't experienced any glitches since hope I could be of any help, as you can see I know the situation you are in.

I have to set my x850xtpe to 570core/ 500mem or it happens to me. I use ATI tool to help.

Looks like a driver glitch. What drivers are you using?

If your using the latest Nvidia drivers (something like 81 or 82 series), then try uninstalling them and going back to the 77 series (found on your installer CD).

Ditto if your using Catylist drivers

I initially overclocked both the memory and core speed after installing an artic cooler solution. Even with low temps i noticed dark line extension that could only be remedied by lowering the clock on my memory down from 590.00 down to 500.00 This only happens with BF2. With all other games I can leave the settings at 570 core/ 590 mem.
