The US won't go to war with Russia. Russia won't go to war with the US. It benefits no one. Vladimir Putin is not that stupid (to create international conflict and probably isolate many of his political allies outside of his country) and there is nothing to be gained by the US in going to war with Russia - we already are the sole superpower.

I'd also like to see just how Georgia are the innocent guys here. South Ossetia wanted to be apart of North Ossetia (Russia) when the USSR split up. But Georgia didn't allow it. So there was a war. South Ossetia basically won the war but everyone refused to acknowledge their independence. So fast forward to modern times and Georgia elect a new President who campaigned on the slogan that he'll bring South Ossetia under Georgian control again (why?), and he did just that. And as soon as he did that (invading SO last thursday), Russia comes in and kicks them out again. Sure, Russia didn't HAVE to get involved. But when you take into account that the South Ossetians wanted to be apart of North Ossetia (Russia) back in the day, and the fact that most of them have Russian passports. I suppose you shouldn't be THAT alarmed that Russia have come and steamrolled the place.
