I am sure they got leak detection systems, like if some one taps oil from pipelines (a leak),jord wrote:

you think transporting oil in a truck in (example) Russia is save?
9/10 trucks will be hi-jacked.
Well they transport Oil in trucks now and 9 outta 10 trucks don't get hijacked...^*AlphA*^ wrote:

I'll just saying, even if you weren't after stealing it. You could continually fuck Russia's oil output by just setting a bit of c4 on it's pipeline every mile or so.
Not even that, but what would happen if you got inside and set it all on fire?

Pipelines are monitored and are in rural regions where you'll easily stand out, good luck trying to massively sabotage a pipeline without getting pumped with lead. It would have to be a pretty big insurgency/group of people to do it, and get away with it. Not to mention the fact that you'd need quite a fair amount of explosive to do the job. Also they're not that easily accessible either. You'd need alot of specialist equipment.
Now can we get back on topic, the more jord posts in this thread the closer it will get to him chatting about his boring British/English nationalism which always annoys me because it's always OTT like some annoying American
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_pipeli … _pipelinesRegardless of this, pipelines are generally the most economical way to transport large quantities of oil or natural gas over land. Compared to railroad, they have lower cost per unit and also higher capacity. Although pipelines can be built under the sea, that process is economically and technically demanding, so the majority of oil at sea is transported by tanker ships.

Russia have got other military interests where as Georgia don't have anything to worry about other than Russia. With that said, even concentrating everything they have, they still don't stand a chance.karl wrote:

A formal declaration of war is something else than a military assault on the troops at the borders of another country.karl wrote:

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has made a formal declaration of war against Russia. He has also asked the Georgian parliament for permission to proclaim a state of siege. This would increase both his authority and that of the army leaders.
Russian fighter planes have bombed targets around the Georgian city of Gori. Although the attacks were directed at a military base in the area, at least one bomb landed in the city itself. Georgian sources say two people have been killed.
Russia has confirmed that two of its fighters have been shot down. Georgia says it has destroyed six Russian planes.
The two countries are fighting over the breakaway region of South Ossetia, which Russia has always supported in its bid for independence from Georgia. The Russian government is claiming that more than 1,500 people have died and that more than 30,000 South Ossetians have fled the fighting. Both sides say they have control of the South Ossetian capital of Tskhinvali.

Wont matter. If the US gets involved, we'll be torn apart for it, like every other conflict we've gotten involved with. Rather we do nothing, get whined at for that, then have another Iraq. Back to the isolationism days. That said, Russia is a major UN power, amongst other things, and starting up a war with them isn't in the best intrest of anyone.Beduin wrote:

I can forsee US peacekeeping troops afterwards, or some sort of relief effort, but not military assitance.
