If I'm looking to upgrade from a 7950GT, which card would you suggest?

Is there a difference between Sapphire and the Visiontek? (other than price)
Sapphire ATI RADEON HD 4850
Visiontek Radeon HD 4850

EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX

There's still the 4870, 4870x2 (i think) and the 9800GTX+ to be released yet mate so I'd hold off for pricing to drop. Also what resolutions do you play? Other specs? Budget? It's likely to be between the 4850 and the 9800GTX+ I think ...

Of those, the 4850. I'd push to a 4870 though if possible.

Too bad you aren't in the states.  Newegg has the Asus branded 4850 for $170 after $30 MIR.

4850 has somewhat of a bandwith issue.  I would go for a 4870 (infact I am xD).  $299

4850. Whoever votes 9800GTX right now is a retard.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

QFT.

Benchies out right now show the 4850 as the clear victor when compared to the 9800gtx. Now the 9800gtx+ is a different matter.

There quoting a 10% jump so it is hardly night and day.  You could OC the 4850, I mean, they where showing the PCB at as much as 90, but the core was on running at 55 at 700mhz.  With good case cooling the 4850 will be a great clocker.  If not then 4870s dual slot cooler should have an excellent overhead.

My price range is kind of depending on how much I make this summer. So far it looks like the 4850/70 is the way to go.

Go for the Sapphire. The price for the 4850 is supposed to be around $199.

Would that beast of a card be compatible with my mobo? I have a AMD Athlon 64 FX-62.

I'm never one to be up to speed with things...that's why I still have a 7950GT (I had a Radeon X300 up until about a year ago). Even if ATI or Nvidia come out with a new card by then...it'll be out of my price range and no games will require that amount of power anyway.

If I didn't already have a year old top end card I would go for a 4870X2 or even two of those, but I'm perfectly happy with my overclocked 8800GTX at the moment <3

Why not wait just a bit longer for the 4870?  Just don't get an Nvidia 9 series card.
