The FCC controls the TV and radio. The main problem I have with them and television, along with radio, is that they don't think people can change the channel or use parental controls. They simply ban most offensive content. If you saw something on tv that offended you, would you change the channel and use parental controls, or would you complain to the FCC, become a crazy social activist, and so on? TV is getting more and more boring because of the FCC. The Howard Stern Show went off the air on TV, Girls Gone Wild infomercials are becoming more and more rare late at night, and so on.

If the FCC dissapeared, it's unlikely TV and radio would descend into relative anarchy. People would just be able to speak freely, and more naturally. I noticed in diologue on shows such as Law & Order, and so on, the diologue is sometimes curbed in places where something would be bleeped out. This brings up a question:

How is it that they can say whatever they want on Showtime or HBO?

It would take something really offensive for me to do something along the lines of complain to whichever organisation should be policing the media. For example a program dedicated to say, the eradication of the Jewish people and supreme white man over the blacks.

That's something I would stand up and fight against.

But I couldn't care less about Howard Stern or how late buxom blones appear in advertising.

Change the channel.

They get to say whatever they want because they are premium channels. You have to pay extra and are therefore choosing to watch their programming with full knowledge of the content.

Definately. I'd freak out if the white supremacists got their own talk show or something. But, for example, on Family Guy some things are cut out simply because they're "offensive" even to just one or two people.

And even then I'd still probably watch to find out the whole point of the program. Boredom will make me change channels or complain much faster then anything controversial.

I sometimes watch stuff because I find it offensive and hilarious. Back at uni, I used to watch the GOD channels late at night after getting back from the pub with my housemates. They were utterly offensive, racist, sexist and crazy. Totally offensive but great entertainment.

In general I'd say if people find something on tv ofensive they should switch channels or turn it off. Just because you find it offensive, doesn't mean everyone else does.
