My opinion:

1) I can't see myself wasting the money on something which exists to get me to waste more time and money.
2) I'm an FPS nerd, and thus I can't aim with the fiddly fucking joysticks.
3) I hate some console-specific ttles when there's no reason the same titles can't be released on PC - jealousy I guess.
4) Also I remember as a kid the people who got their parents to buy them PlayStations and Nintendo 64s and Gameboys were always the biggest arseholes.

However consoles are great for when people come around to get wasted and play mindless games - Smash Bros is a good one for this, as is Halo I guess. If people want to buy a console and play console games more power to 'em, I just won't be joining them.

I don't see how how being an FPS aficionado means you can't aim with a controller. What kind of a conclusion is that?
Besides, anyone can aim decently with a controller, it just takes a bit of practice. I used to get motion sick the first days I had my Playstation 2 and played Medal of Honor Frontline. After a while I was pretty adept at splattering virtual Krauts' brains across the screen. Sure, you don't have the pixel pin point aim that you have with a mouse and keyboard. But you can get pretty close to that.

Probably because the PC fags think they can get any game with ALL extras and maps etc, unlike the same game on another format.

The worst excuse is, I can't aim with a controller

I mean, what's worst than playing UT3 with a controller? And when I played it, and it was completely normal.

Easy: PCs win. At least, good ones do.

That is to say, there are sevral valid points here, for example that to play CoD4 on a PC you need about $1500 as opposed to $500 or whatever for a console+controller.

And now that TVs are a staple of every home, there's no factoring in the cost of the screen anymore. Personally, I believe that the last good console was the N64. Why? Well, it was not a scaled-down computer. Second, it had fun, multiplayer-oriented (for the most part) games, which were not striving for realism or graphics prowess. They were just friendly games. the Xbox and PS2/3 revolutionized gaming--now everyone could play PC-quality games at home.

I'm not going to dismantle those consoles--but I still do think that they're essentially comps with no OS. In fact, some ppl modded their Xboxes to get a $400 comp. But, a real PC can do so much more, email, edit movies/music, internet, media players, torrents, etc etc etc.

It's true, as I said, that PCs are more expensive, and that they don't have the "fun with friends" aspect built-in. Online games, ftw! BF2, ffs! No, really. The interface on a comp is much better (yes, i can aim very well with a controller joystick, it just annoys me), and the upgradeability is a plus.

Furthermore, there's always tech specs competitions, no good for consoles.

As for myself, i think I have the perfect compromise: I have a fairly good PC, fairly expensive to but w/e. I've got a 17" CRT for when i want to play alone, but when I'm w/ others i plug it into a 1080p 118" projector with 750 watts of 6.1 delite. Plus, a Logitech G25 for ultimacy. If I want to play with others, either I set them up on my other comp (2002 but upgraded to play BF2 and the like) or I bring down my N64. 'nuff said.

Addendum: and I prefer paying $39 for games as opposed to $69+

My favorite genres are FPS, RTS and RPG.

While RGPs aren't much better with the M&KB than with the controller, FPSs are much easier fluent and it is all but impossible to navigate an RTS effectively with the stupid controller.

Also I have a PC anyway, why spend $400 on a console when I could just play on the PC that I already have?

After getting used to a mouse I CANNOT aim with a joystick...and as you try to get used to it again all I can think is how much better using  mouse is to me.

I could get used to it, I used to be. I used to be just as good with a controller. I also used to be just as good with a trackball on the PC. But after trying all option for over a year each I came to the conclusion that a mouse is so very much better that the others are annoying.

PC is also easier for smaller developers, So while most console games have to be developed for a mass market on PC its easier to find a game to fit a specific niche.

I like more realistic games, and mainly only play racing and shooting games. As I said before I find a mouse to be MUCH better for FPS (and If you like a controller more for them, its only because you haven't taken the time to get good with a mouse IMO)
The most realistic console driving games still don't come close to some of the better PC racing sims.  Most people can't dive a race car and don't want the game to remind them of that, so even GT and Forenza account for that.

Console is better for GTA

Consoles cost a lot.
Consoles waste time.
I can do more on a pc and play more enjoyable and complex games that make me think a bit.

But I still own my halo nerd friend at halo.. lol.

GTA on the PC is waaaaay better. Shorter loading times, longer view distances and manual aim instead of auto-aim.

donno.. no real point in sitting around playing something that doesn't improve you as a person..

And I'm not saying playing pc games is any better. I just think sitting on a couch vegging out playing halo (or some other game) all day is a bit more wide spread than some console games (except things like wow)

Little tab for sensitivity. Go fetch.

That's just a little taster, taken purely from the CoD4 forums.

I like PC gaming, hell i first got into gaming on the PC. Yet i really honestly do enjoy console game's, particularly FPS's.

I guess the main arguments break down to tech issues, or just general unfounded hate.

Your opinions?

Personally I think PC gamers are usually more associated with "vegging it out" in front of their rigs for long gaming sessions. I think of PC gamers more as 'hardcore'. Difference of perception I guess

hmm, it might have something to do with how you move a mouse over a much larger distance in a more controlled manner, allowing you to learn the difference between aiming 2 cm to the right or 3 cm to the right far easier than with a stick that you actually have to hold in place to keep moving.

It might also have something to do with how almost nobody in this thread is willing to speak their true opinion and instead deem it necessary to try to be nice to both sides, occasionally spouting a false argument to mix things up. Well played guys, as usual.

PC games "for me" have far surpassed console games long ago. Shooters on consoles are weak after you've had a keyboard & mouse. Most console games don't give me the same satisfaction as I get from playing an RTS or FPS, again it's near impossible to try & play rts on a console. I enjoyed guitar hero 3 & madden but the games I keep coming back too i.e. Lord of the rings online & supreme commander are always growing & changing, that's my money's worth too me. Back in the day you used to be able to turn in 3 old games & get a new one, these days your lucky to get a 5th of the value. PC's for the win in my book.

i think pc gamers, myself included, dislike the perceived ignorance of console gamers. I have owned both consoles and pc's since the late 1980s. Since then, pc gamers have ALWAYS been the kings of hacking, exploiting, asshattery, and other miscellaneous methods of wrecking gameplay. When consoles began to surge in sales and power around the turn of the last console generation, pc gamers (yes me too) probably got jealous. It can be pretty maddening when you pay 3 thousand dollars to play a game that another individual only pays 500 for, and his runs flawlessly when yours has bugs and incompatibilities. My own hate for consoles games has died out, and I simply play what I can afford, which to stay current is consoles. I can take a small reduction in visuals in order to continue playing new games.

Part of the shite storm about computers is that you must constantly upgrade to play the newest games, whereas consoles are a much less frequent upgrade. That's another reason pc gamers hate the hell out of consoles.

I noticed you didn't quote the first half of my post, which was aimed at you. Also, don't go dumbing down those who disagree: falsely quoting them to prove their stupidity is rather pathetic.

I love console games. There are alot of types of games that are "WAY" better to play on a consol thang a pc. I also like to play fps games on consol as well. The types of fps games that are good on consol are the games with a story that you well beat in about 8-10 hours and not touch again. BUT I still love pc gaming.

@ Lucien: First, why would I have to quote the first part? You're right, a mouse allows better aim than a controller does? What's there to discuss? However, does that mean an FPS on a console cannot be entertaining? Because that seems to be what some people here are claiming.

Second, false quoting huh..

and there's a pretty rampant use of the term console tard a lot here at times in the 'other title' section and Cod4 section.
