I wouldnt say the SS were incredible soldiers. They were just pretty well trained and disciplined. Our regular army units were defeating them in WW2.

There is roughly 200,000 Marines, at least by 2011 there should be 202,000 if Wikipedia is to be believed.

The SAS doesn't work in the buisiness of defeating armies, the SAS exists to complete missions or specific objectives - very cloak-and-dagger. The Marines on the other hand are a well-trained fighting force who are professionals at fighting full-scale wars.
