Stephen King was on the Today Show this morning. He made the offhand comment that the Mist was "sort of a prequel to Cloverfield."

I haven't gotten to see either yet, but plan on watching at least the Mist... For anyone who has seen both, are they actually related at all, or was that out of context, or just referring to style, or what?

Edit: typo

What?  How is there a connection between The Mist and Cloverfield?  I've missed something.

Both have aliens. Everyone dies in both. Thats the only connection I see, other than the aliens in both movies where just stupid predatory animals.

Oh, and Mist was a better movie IMO.

I don't know, that was why I was asking... Was the first thing I had heard remotely linking the two... I didn't understand the comment...

Someone posted on here that you see something fly into the ocean at the end of the movie, when the last coney island clip was played. Not true?

I heard cloverfield was a horrible movie. The guy who made it even admitted he got the idea from seeing a godzilla toy in a store. Pretty original.

True indeed.  I saw it, my friend next to me saw it.

Sure the plot was open ended and had no closure, still was a great movie.  It had a basic plot, that's the type of movie it was.  The point was you get caught up with the main characters in the all the events that transpire.  Besides, 300 was the only movie I've seen within the last decade with more action.

Then I don't think it could have come from the "incident" in The Mist, as an average viewer would assume it came from space after seeing that.
