So I've decided to be a Gaming Designer.

Thought it would be my "perfect job", since I'm never off games and I'm interested in code and html and geeky stuff like that.
I looked up a uni book and it said there was a course in Abertay. Brilliant.
Then I looked at what qualifications I would need, and it said something like "companys will differ" so I've only got a general idea of what I need.
Anyone able to confirm what I need?

When you make a game make sure it has:
-No Grenades
-No claymores

And a online form you have to fill out before you install it that tests the persons IQ so we dont have fucking retards playing the game. Thanks.

You could try taking an initiative instead of expecting things to be handed to you.

Write letters to companies you would consider working for (At this stage with no idea if you'll even get a decent degree that should be any company) asking what they would look for in terms of qualifications.

Who knows, they may even offer to sponsor you.

They're not yanking your chain. Companies will differ. You can find many of these answers by looking at offered positions on the websites of developers you'd like to work for. Most of them are looking for some degree of experience as well as education. If you're into coding (and congratulations, because it's much more in demand than art), become as much a fan of mathematics as you are games, and find a mod team (who are also always looking for coders) to work for so you can say you've had prior experience. Frequent sites such as www.gamasutra.com and try to contact people within the industry for suggestions and to establish correspondence. If you talk to them, chances are they'll be more likely to consider you than they would if you sent a faceless resumé, demo reel, program or whatever. Finally, alongside coding, learn as much trivia about other aspects of game development (go through some classes if you want) as you can to ease communication with other members of staff.

While taking classes, use your free time to surf the internet in search of tidbits of info with which teach yourself other aspects and methods of your desired job. Colleges that offer courses like the one you mentioned usually have a seminar or a section of class devoted to teaching you how to look for work in the field you're training for, so they'll fill you in with much more detail than I could supply in a single post. If you're given the opportunity to work, take it...even if it's for a small, relatively unknown team. Lastly, operate on your own initiative.

Good luck trying to get a job you actually want. Economy's down the tubes, and all these mythical gaming companies tend to hire people they know.

You must lead a sad, sad life, buddy. Ever heard of "goals" these days?

Regarding game designing: even though it is in a different field, maths and physics will be a big plus so that you can go out and create, and more important code, a game. There's a gaming degree at Queen's University here and I've taken a look at what some of the students have produced. It's no pacman or portal, but it is alright for a set of first year students!

Finny, the best Uni in Scotland for Game design is Dundee University.

It's unique for game design. Famous all over the world for it.

Also, HTML has nothing to do with Gaming design, very very VERY different coding involved, plus animation, plus CGI.

Qualifications : Check the UCAS site. I would be aiming for at least 3 As and 2Bs at higher level and 2 advanced highers.

Hope you're good with math, geometry, and physics.  Expect very long hours, and impossible milestones.  Pay is very good, but divided out by the real number of hours you work, it turns out to be about above average.

Yup I would look at Dundee also, Abertay isn't a great uni but it is getting better.  I looked at doing animation and you really need to be pretty proficient in 3d modelling and coding.  There is/was a games company in Dunfermline (near me) and a Rockstar office in Edinburgh down near John Lewis.  You could maybe get a summer/temp job there? Good luck!
