I was playing regular CoD the other day, and it was lame to say the least. 90% of the time I was shooting first and getting first hits but they jumped around/turned around and killed me. Or went behind cover and then popped out and killed me. In regular mode it's all about getting headshots, which is just random luck. In hardcore mode you don't need that. I pretty much only ever play Hardcore mode. Infact my first ever round of CoD4 was hardcore (unintentional, but still)
It's only a luck based mode if don't know where to start shooting. I exactly where my crosshair is even though it isn't actually there, so for me it is just like any other round - I prefer it this way.
If you think it is luck based, you need to go back to playing non-hardcore servers and realize where your gun is pointing.

It's all personal preference (obviously).
You don't need too many bullets to kill someone in standard.
And you don't kill someone too easily in hardcore.
They're just different.
Personally I prefer the more frantic and fast paced standard. Opposed to the more waiting around and dying very easily which happens in hardcore.

How is getting headshots luck? That is defiantly a skill - aiming.Mek-Izzle wrote:

And also, if they jump around a kill you or go behind cover then kill, doesn't that just make them a better player?
And also, you make out that in regular you need a huge amount of bullets to kill someone, which simply isn't true.
You don't need to get a headshot, sure, it kills them in one shot (as it does in hardcore), but, it only takes serveral body shots to kill someone which is 1 or 2 short bursts (both on target) - not just 1 or 2 shots on target in hardcore.
If you look at it that way ^ ....regular takes more skill as it were.

He's talking about the old CoD there, and that game is so full of random headshots (as is CoD2) that I can barely stand playing them any more.james@alienware wrote:

That happens in Hardcore too, you know...james@alienware wrote:

Compared to Hardcore, it is.james@alienware wrote:

Bullshit. I've had to double headshot a ton of people.james@alienware wrote:

All regular takes is an Assault Rifle + Stopping Power. Hardcore evens the field.james@alienware wrote:

I know, of course... but he mentioned that as it was a negative point of playing regular.Fenris_GreyClaw wrote:

Fair enough, but with all the guns besides I think the uzi, skorpion, P90 and the pistols (I may have missed one) it's a one shot headshot. It defiantly is for all the assault rifles anyway.Fenris_GreyClaw wrote:

I personally don't think either mode takes more skill, they're both totally different styles of play.

Then i take it your by your own admission your only lucky when you play and have no skill.nukchebi0 wrote:

HC mode is about being sensible, needing better use of perks to not get killed, and not who see's who first gets the kill. As if that's what you think i would be wasting my time even trying to explain it to you. So by the sounds of it your best just sticking to standard mode.
Same with me, I still prefer Hardcore thoughjames@alienware wrote:

^ Damn, you missed my edit now I look illiterate.
I'm going to have another attempt at hardcore tonight. Give it some more time, I'm sure it'll grow on me!

Don't play it too much though, otherwise you'll suck at Softcore. I've been playing HC exclusively for almost 3 days and tried going back to Softcore, only to fail miserably.james@alienware wrote:

How to make Hardcore super easy for those having trouble, use the M14+Stopping Power - win - the end, one shot = one kill, I'd Dot sight it or use the Silencer for comedy effect, ACOG gimps it's otherwise near flawless accuracy.
Or if you want to play in a slightly less overpowered way, replace Stopping Power with Radar Jammer, use Dead Silence and pop a silencer on the M14, the ultimate in stealthy bastard technology, 2 shot kills though (I know, 2 whole bullets for a kill, it's terrible ).

G3 > M14 tbh. Less recoil.TheEternalPessimist wrote:

Why is recoil an issue? You only fire once
The G3 is weaker too.

If you're using Dead Silence, you definitely need the second shot.TheEternalPessimist wrote:

Edit: not by enough to matter in HC.

If your playing right you've got all the time in the world. It's no Rambo kit.
If my new PC gear ever arrives I'll have a go at FRAPSing a few HC rounds, G3 just doesn't cut it at big range like the M14 does, it works, just not as well.

It works for me...TheEternalPessimist wrote:

Didnt say it didn't work.
It works better than the M14 for me.
