Military pay grades are the same for every branch of the US Armed Forces. You guys should have knowledge of the things you post, me thinks. I know I do...

The last one.
I voted USMC.

Airforce ftw. (My Grandfather (F-86) and Father (F-15/F-16) both flew). I plan to fly aswell.
All the services have their own pros and cons. I'm active duty Air Force, but I have to agree there are a lot of slugs out there in AF blue. But they are also in Navy blue...and Army green...and yes, even USMC digitized camo. However, the few times I've had second thoughts, I've wished I joined the Corps. There is a brotherhood there that you just don't see outside of special ops in any other branch...and it's the whole damn Service.
But then I remember that the Marines actually fall under the Navy. I simply won't be associated with Seamen.:-)
As to the USCG. They are only a branch of the military when they fall under DoD. Normally, they fall under DHS, which is not military. That's not to say I don't respect them...before 9/11, they were one of two branches that ran the risk of seeing combat daily (the other would be the AF flying OSW and ONW). I've also heard that the USCG Academy is one of the toughest to get into and one of the toughest to finish.
If you desire a family life of any sort...join the AF. Otherwise, go USMC.
Oh...and there's not much out there cooler than the A-10 and AC-130...CAS: When you're all outta HUA.

I agreewhat FEOS wanted to write, instead of what he actually wrote:

Air force ftw i wanna fly!
i think it has already been said, but the pay rates are equal across the board. and by the way SEMPER FI, the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS owns ALL!! and unless it changed, the puddle jumpers (Coast Guard) belong to the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, not the D.O.D. that may have changed thoughjoeymango29 wrote:

I'll take 30mm of depleted uranium over that bushmaster any day. And not sure how they'd be dismounts if they're in the back...

The air force has many highly skilled men and women, and they can do many things that the Army/Marines can't. But that goes for Marines as well.
They are both great branches.

DHS if I'm not mistaken.hate&discontent wrote:

I met an Air Force guy today, very nice. I was on the Metro, and when we were getting off I said 'Hey soldier, thank you." He returned my handshake, asked me how I was, and then we shot the shit until we parted ways. Real nice guy, satellite operations specialist.
I voted for Air Force, even though I joined the Army a long time ago (before 9/11).
at least in the army or corps you have to be man enough to see the people your killing.
You have to be incredibly ignorant to drop a bomb from thousands of feet up, then never have to come face to face with the people your blowing apart.

Well I am filled with bias, but even so, you learn far more by spending a minute on the ground of a country then a year flying over it. So, US Chair Farce for the lose.
Air force FTW!!!
I think what they meant about the pay is the funding? The air force gets all the best toys because they do most of the tech stuff. I voted USMC! And the USMC isn't just all brawn anymore. There are some MOSs that require a lot of brains!
One could argue that you have to be incredibly ignorant to make a statement like that. Ignorance, in this case, being the complete lack of knowledge about the subject of which you speak.CommieChipmunk wrote:

Air Force:
Pros:
NUKES!
Planes
Technology n stuff
Cons:
Not so good infantry and other stuff compared to rest. ( I think?)
Navy:
Pros:
Ships
Subs
Portable nukes
SEALS
Cons:
Same as Air Force
Army:
Pros:
Infantry is good
Is the army
Special Forces
Cons:
Basically every other branch out-do's it in everything
USMC:
Pros:
Great conventional weaponry etc
Planes
Ships
Cons:
Infantry training isnt the best, if a corporal from the Australian Army goes for a transfer, they become a Sgt in the MC, since Aussies have such good training.... in world standards
Nukes? I dont know bout nukes in the USMC
Coast Guard:
Pros:
Localised defence
Cons:
Localised defence
Meh.

I'm pretty sure the USMC has better infantry than US Army. Not to be biased or anything, but that's how I see it.KuSTaV wrote:

What is the United States Coast Guard?
The U.S. Coast Guard is one of five branches of the US Armed Forces, and falls under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. For more information on the Coast Guard see our "About Us" content.
The Coast Guard's roots lie in the Revenue Cutter Service, which was founded on August 4, 1790 as part of the Department of the Treasury. An act of the U.S. Congress created the Coast Guard in 1915, with the merger of the Revenue Cutter Service and the United States Lifesaving Service. The United States Lighthouse Service was merged into the Coast Guard in 1939. The legal basis for the Coast Guard is Title 14 of the United States Code, which states: "The Coast Guard as established January 28, 1915, shall be a military service and a branch of the armed forces of the United States at all times." Upon the declaration of war or when the President directs, the Coast Guard operates under the authority of the Department of the Navy. The Coast Guard later moved to the Department of Transportation in 1967, and on February 25, 2003 it became part of the Department of Homeland Security.
As members of a military service, Coast Guardsmen on active and reserve service are subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice and receive the same pay and allowances as members of the same pay grades in the other four armed services.
Taken from the coast guard site. they are under the DHS but they are a branch of the military (armed forces)

I'm somewhat poised between Army and Marines, but, I picked Army, paratroopers fall under Army right? If I ever joined up, I would be a paratrooper, I may get a little nervous (not fear) of high places but man I would love to bail out the back of a plane and sail down
They are considered part of the Armed Forces...but are a part of a military branch (Department of the Navy) only when under DoD control, as DoD is the only department of the govt that has authority to execute military operations. Otherwise, USCG falls under DHS (and Transportation before that)...where they are not a "branch" of the military, but a law enforcement entity.jaymz9350 wrote:

Esoteric, I know, but there is a distinct difference...primarily as relates to authorities under which they operate. When part of the Dept of the Navy, they operate under Title 10 of the US Code. The USCG operates under Title 14 of the USC and has law enforcement authorities, which the DoD does not. It is somewhat similar to the differences between the National Guard and the active duty Army and AF.

You really have to do something bad to wind up in a fox hole in the Air force.
