Military pay grades are the same for every branch of the US Armed Forces. You guys should have knowledge of the things you post, me thinks. I know I do...

I voted USMC.

Partly because of BF2, mostly because of Matthew Reilly's 'Scarecrow' series.

All the services have their own pros and cons. I'm active duty Air Force, but I have to agree there are a lot of slugs out there in AF blue. But they are also in Navy blue...and Army green...and yes, even USMC digitized camo. However, the few times I've had second thoughts, I've wished I joined the Corps. There is a brotherhood there that you just don't see outside of special ops in any other branch...and it's the whole damn Service.

But then I remember that the Marines actually fall under the Navy. I simply won't be associated with Seamen.:-)

As to the USCG. They are only a branch of the military when they fall under DoD. Normally, they fall under DHS, which is not military. That's not to say I don't respect them...before 9/11, they were one of two branches that ran the risk of seeing combat daily (the other would be the AF flying OSW and ONW). I've also heard that the USCG Academy is one of the toughest to get into and one of the toughest to finish.

If you desire a family life of any sort...join the AF. Otherwise, go USMC.

Oh...and there's not much out there cooler than the A-10 and AC-130...CAS: When you're all outta HUA.

i think it has already been said, but the pay rates are equal across the board.  and by the way SEMPER FI, the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS owns ALL!!  and unless it changed, the puddle jumpers (Coast Guard) belong to the U.S. Dept. of Transportation, not the D.O.D.  that may have changed though

The air force has many highly skilled men and women, and they can do many things that the Army/Marines can't. But that goes for Marines as well.
They are both great branches.

I voted for Air Force, even though I joined the Army a long time ago (before 9/11).

Well I am filled with bias, but even so, you learn far more by spending a minute on the ground of a country then a year flying over it.  So, US Chair Farce for the lose.

I think what they meant about the pay is the funding? The air force gets all the best toys because they do most of the tech stuff. I voted USMC! And the USMC isn't just all brawn anymore. There are some MOSs that require a lot of brains!

Basically every other branch out-do's it in everything

USMC:

Great conventional weaponry etc

Cons:
Infantry training isnt the best, if a corporal from the Australian Army goes for a transfer, they become a Sgt in the MC, since Aussies have such good training.... in world standards
Nukes? I dont know bout nukes in the USMC

Coast Guard:
Pros:
Localised defence

Cons:
Localised defence

The Coast Guard's roots lie in the Revenue Cutter Service, which was founded on August 4, 1790 as part of the Department of the Treasury. They are considered part of the Armed Forces...but are a part of a military branch (Department of the Navy) only when under DoD control, as DoD is the only department of the govt that has authority to execute military operations. Otherwise, USCG falls under DHS (and Transportation before that)...where they are not a "branch" of the military, but a law enforcement entity.

Esoteric, I know, but there is a distinct difference...primarily as relates to authorities under which they operate. When part of the Dept of the Navy, they operate under Title 10 of the US Code. The USCG operates under Title 14 of the USC and has law enforcement authorities, which the DoD does not. It is somewhat similar to the differences between the National Guard and the active duty Army and AF.
