That's indeed what you've been told, but the reality is that we've created a hotbed of terror through instability. We've also been funding unscrupulous contracting corporations that are sucking up our funds while soldiers deal with substandard facilities.The_Mac wrote:

Dude, nowhere in his post was he pointing fingers and making fun of the soldiers. All he was saying was that he thought it was bullshit to tell people to shut up because it was an opinion that one didn't agree with. Yes, it sucks when the soldiers get made fun of, and are belittled, but thats why freedom of expression is a double edged sword, right? As for supporting those people, maybe he isn't supporting the commentary of the people disrepecting the soldiers, but rather supporting their right to say it.David.P wrote:

We just aren't obliged to comply.
Doesn't freedom just suck sometimes when people exercise it in a fashion you don't like.
So you support people spitting on soldiers and disrespecting them? You can go ahead and criticize the government, military brass, and anyone other decision maker but never ever insult the grunts! These people have done nothing against you infact they've done so many things for you!
I see that many people like strykker described are blaming the soldiers because it's easier, They cant just walk into a military base point their fingers in the CO's face they'ed be shot! Most lib's are cowards thats why they attack soldiers, Give them a gun and send em off to Iraq what do you think they'll do? Thats right they'll just throw it away and try to reason with the enemy! Soldiers dont talk they fight that kind of work is for the politicians that bullshit diplomatically handle the enemy.
Ya it does kinda suck but what would happen if we let Saudi arabia have california in a fair trade? Maybe then you'll learn to appreciate what you had.
So hunter tell your liberal hippie friends to stop going up to soldiers and starting shit or they will regret it later on.

I'm really disappointed with those of you who simply cannot allow a thread about our troops to stay positive. I question why you are posting in this thread. It can't be balance because there's an abundance of threads that focus on the extremely small minority of soldiers that do the wrong thing. If anyone wants to throw mud at our brave men and women in the United States armed forces please start your own thread for your next session of finger-pointing at the troops. Allow this one to stay focused on all the positive things our soldiers do.
I acknowledge the positive things our soldiers do and try to do. If you'll notice, I haven't been criticizing the troops. I criticize our government and the contractors.Stingray24 wrote:

I think you'll find that most of the criticism in this thread is toward similar targets. I don't know too many people that actually have something against the soldiers themselves.
Granted, I agree that this thread has gone negatively, partially because of my own fault... Sorry about that....
I understand the criticism of our government and its decisions. I'm just asking for it to stay out of this thread. I've got buddies over there and they're good guys. This forum needs a pat on the back thread for the troops.

Soldiers are human beings, just like everyone else, and just like across a broad spectrum of society you're gonna get most people who are fundamentally decent and good people at heart, you're also going to get your odd sociopath or psychopath, it's unavoidable. It's really nice to see those pictures, because most of the news and media reports that come out of Iraq are about the dark and miserable and often horrifying things that we are capable of.
That said, soldiers don't have some kind of special sanctity, they're not above criticism, and they shouldn't be portrayed that way. It is important to remember though that you cannot criticise them for what they are not responsible for. A soldier doesn't sign up and tick a box to say he will only participate in conflicts or missions he is in moral agreement with, this means you can hardly blame any soldier or soldiers in general for the War in Iraq. The flipside to that is of course that when they do commit acts outside their roles, they are entirely responsible for their actions; the rape and torture of Iraqi civilians falls right into that category.
Psychological tests have shown that people in positions of power over others will often abuse that position, no matter what their moral compass says. Soldiers need the training to be able to deal adequately with those issues. It's nice to see pictures like this of the valuable work that soldiers of all nations are doing in Iraq to help the Iraqi people, if only the Iraqis could do that themselves.

I did'nt say him i said "His kind" You know what i find funny? That i can be called a racist so many times for my points of view by them but i cant call them out for what they think! Why the fuck cant i say Al sharpton is a race baiter? Why am i going to be called white supremacist? Why cant i say that Islam needs to own up to the radicals in its religion? Or i will be called a fascist! Why can they get away with everything and yet i cant? Why? Please tell me why do i have to listen to their opinions but they dont have to listen to mine? My point is liberals are the most extreme of hypocrits! I hate hypocrisy really hate it. So please go on keep insulting those that gave you the right to speak freely but when the time comes for you to start walking the walk i'll be there watching you fall.Smithereener wrote:

That's his point, you don't have to listen to them bitch and complain, that's freedom right? By telling someone to shut up, no matter what their opinion, you're barring them from their right to free speech. Trust me, it pisses me off when those Westboro folk start protesting funerals, but what can we do? But if they're citizens, they have the right to say what they want(as long as it isn't conspiring against the government). The whole hypocrasy of the situation revolves around this. People are telling others to shut up about their opinions by telling them the soldiers die for them so they can say it. By using that kind of argument to tell someone to shut their trap, you're only dishonoring the soldier's sacrifices, not honoring them. Now isn't that hypocritical.David.P wrote:

Everyone has been a hypocrit, that's fact. BUT to generalize and say liberals the most extreme is quite unfounded. Sure, there are some liberals that speak out of their ass, but I'm damn sure there are conservatives that say the same thing. The fact is, you can say the things you want to say. You pretty much just called Al Sharpton a race baiter just now; you pretty much just called out Islam, saying that they need to own up to the radicals. Yes, you will be called names for that, but that's obviously not the case with EVERY libera or personl there is, right? To call out all liberals and say that we all will call you a facist for stating what you believe in is just bull.
This whole unfounded hate towards liberals, and vice versa, towards conservatives is total bollocks.
So what is the point of posting that picture?m3thod wrote:
