It depends on where you are at the concert.

Where will you be in relation to the stage?

I would say if you up close to speakers maybe an hour after the concert will be harder to hear.

Short Term, went to an Anthrax concert not to long ago and couldn't hear very well for the next few hours, but your ears will get better.

Dude Amon Amarth fucking rocks out so fucking hard. May I go with you?

Anyways.  I went to Sounds of the Underground with GWAR, Cannibal Corpse, Trivium, In Flames, As I Lay Dying, and many others.

Short Term hearing loss and some ringing.

Especially on the carride home when you're trying to talk to your buddies.

I was two meters away from Mustaine in a Megadeth concert and had no problem with my ears.  What did you say?  What?

If there is any ringing in your ears, permanent damage has been done. Period. If you don't want to hurt your ears, I wouldn't listen to metal at all.

in all seriousness, it shouldn't be a big problem unless you decide to go to one or more everymonth, then you should start looking into hearing aids.

Just temporary hearing loss, I was at a concert where the speakers came down on rods from the ceiling and I happen to be standing under one the whole time for a 3 hour show, I was partially-deaf for a bit, but no major damage.

My ears were killed after a Poison/Cinderella concert, but it all depends on where you sit according to the speakers.

buy some cheap ear plugs, you can always take em out if you decide you dont need em

The longest hearing loss I've ever experienced was a couple days, which was after an Ozzfest concert. Normal shows cause some loss of hearing a couple of hours afterwards.

Edit:

Yeah, if there is some shitty band(s) opening then I would suggest using plugs for those sets.

Typically, if it is enough to cause any significant short term hearing loss, it will also cause a minor amount of long term hearing loss.  So it might be in your best interest to wear earplugs.

All of the above. Short/Long term temporary hearing loss (Depends on how loud), will ring for a few days, and absolutely no perma damage to ears.

Yay Science Channel.

Ha... I search ozzfest and this post came up...

Ive been to over 100 Metal shows in my life...

My first was Ozzy w/ Motley Crue in 1984... I've seen him at least 7 times since...

Saw Judas Priest 11 times...

I'm going to Ozzfest tom. for free... and I'm 40...

I will hear it quite well...

To answer your question....  No. But it will make you a better person.

It depends. I've been to tons and played in bands for years. Around the time I stopped all that, 10 years ago, I was diagnosed with Tinnitus. Everyone's hearing is different and will be affected differently. One concert isn't going to be a problem unless you're hugging the speakers the whole time.

Don't know what this advice is worth now, considering this guy probably went to this show six months ago and hasn't been on this site in a while...

I went to a Dimmu borgir show in April and my ears rang for a few days after the show. I was worried whether I was stuck with tinnitus for the rest of my life but fortunately after a few days it completely stopped. I'd recommend to bring ear plugs. If it's loud enough, it's enough to damage your ears but not enough to make a difference to your fun if you wear ear plugs.
