Ok, so there's no "middle" pixel in the resolutions you assumed these screen shots may have been taken.  What's your point?  The guy who posted them is illustrating where the bullet actually hits in relation to the sights.  It looks like it took a lot of time to assemble and share them so I'm not sure why you would be such a dick.  Don't agree with it?  Fine.  But flaming the guy just makes you look like a tard.

I don't feel like posting the G36E one, but i can say its a lot like the MG36. This is a big part of the reason why people that practice on the G36E end up sucking at the AK101 and M16. If you line up an AK101 or M16 exactly the way you would a G36E, then every single shot you fire will go directly over the targets head.


Ive posted these numerous times but since they are on topic here, also have a look at these sight pics. The difference is Nero drew them from memory based on what he thinks works best. The main difference you notice is how low he aims the AK101. I also tend to use it this way, and I believe the reason it works is that recoil after your first shot causes the next ones to land further above the labeled "sweet spot," so in reality you want to aim roughly where where Nero marks when you are spamming and go for the spot marked on mine with your first shots. I find the M16 has so much less recoil so that consecutive shots dont appear to cause as much climb and hence Neros drawing shows the placement much lower on the sight than the AK101.

With recoil what it is, I suggest referring to neros images for most of your vertical alignment and my images for horizontal alignment.

Hmm. This is a Useful Topic. It seems that the weapons aren't too far off where I've been aiming, but it's good to see where I'm going wrong.

Disclaimer: I might, and probably will be wrong, I have read this topic through, but still see why my arguement will not work- if it doesn't tell me nicely, it is only MY POV

What you have posted, many people will find useful, I am thinking (but may be wrong), that it will be irrelevant for the majority of the guns, and here is why.....

Take the M16A2 for example, you tell us to aim slightly to the right.

Even if we aim using the iron sight, the actual place where the shot hits will hit the place we are aiming at, as the difference between the iron sight, and the actual hit, is so similar.

So as long as the thing you are aiming at isn't a pixel in the distance, aiming using the iron sight will still mean head shots.

The same applies for every other weapon, apart from the pistols.

Another problem (unless, I am wrong again), is that this will only work in single shot situation, and even then will not work too efficiently. This is all because of the deviation, which changes depending on whether you are crouching, standing, or prone, and also by the number of shots you have fired previous to that given shot. So, chances are is that you will rarely hit that spot, unless you are in the prone position, and everything else is perfect.

Note that most actual crosshairs are around a pixel to the left, from then it is just mostly up a pixel or on some occasions, down. Time to go fix my crosshair level, if possible..

utterly wrong... unless you only shoot at about 20 meters. but that alone makes you wrong. Select the medic kit, but when you do, pretend you are a sniper that just cant stand still and just has to arrive at a flag soon.

there is no rule. that would never work with an AK or an mr444 unless you took your good shots by accident. for the most part you just have to memorize (although there are a few that are almost the same as each other).

Well in this form this wasn't posted until today because I painstakingly made these images for like 3 hours this morning. However I know that jemme and todd angelo have posted similar SS of the sniper rifles off center scopes and I even seem to recall like a year ago that somebody may have posted other shots like this of some of the weapons. I definitely know you can find similar images set up for chopper pilots at secretsofbattlefield.com.

thanks for reposting that, its a shame hardly anyone saw it to begin with. Its also a shame that those images are too compressed to see the critical details. there are about half as many visible pixels.

If you aim in the right spot you either will hit, if your accuracy is high enough, or your chances of getting a hit will increase.

I never knew about the AK ironsights, and having tried the new point to aim with I hit more often that before. On single shot, I hit on long range shots a lot more.

Its been covered a couple of times on both the TotalBf2 forums and the Project Reality forums.

Doesnt matter though, because I cannt remember it being posted here so Marinejuana did a good job. Plus it gives me additional screenies for a small Tech Guide for Snipers I am writing.

Most Snipers in this game probably know that the center of screen doesnt match the center of the reticle of your scope. The center of the screen is what the game-engine uses for reference in determining if you are on target.
However the information on the discrepancy between center of screen and reticle was only taken from testing in a 1024 x 768 format. Recent testing done by ScoutStrike showed an entirely different story for 1280 x 1024. Check the pictures below for the differences ...

The reason for choosing a square to depict the center of the screen is the following;
The coordinate system runs from x = 0-1023 and y = 0-767 (which gives 1024x768 pixels)
The center is actually located at x = 1023/2 = 511.5 and y = 767/2 = 383.5, but since there is no pixel at that exact coordinate, the best approximation would be to draw a square around x = 511-512 and y = 383-384. The hit point is the middle of the square.
The same goes for the 1280 x 1024 pictures.
