I was thinking of waiting for leopard; which looks amazing, but then I'd just keep waiting for the next thing and the next thing, I wouldn't get anywhere!
Time machine especially looks good. And spaces seems pretty cool, not necessary but a nice feature.

I use office 2004 on my (non-mac!) desktop, works fine, I'm used to it, no problems. The new things offered in office 2007 aren't really enough for me for it to warrant £100 or however much it costs.
So if it works well for macs, then I'll go for that!

I had no idea about an office 08.

Mac hardware is more expensive, indeed, but that is because all hardware that goes into a Mac has to be certified by Apple for compatibility.

But you can always buy an External burner from any brand and hook that up to the FireWire800 or USB2 ports, externally you are not bound to the certificate.
Really?  It's the one thing I have not tried, I don't want to plunk down $60 for an external drive just to find out it doesn't work.  In addition, a lot also have to do with the burning software too I assume.

Not to close windows, I'm trying to close browser tabs.  I have a Mac Mini '06.

Also when I'm on a form, on a PC if I click on a tab and the next field is a drop down box, a PC will let me go to the drop down box and I could select something in the drop down box.  On a Mac, it skips the drop down field and goes to the next non-drop box field such as radio buttons or text field.  Using Firefox on both.  Also, seems like you can't close a new tab in Firefox Mac no more...

point 1: I would blame this on the fact there there are more manufacturers of Harddrives for PC's so more chances of things going wrong.
point 2: I would have to disagree here. If you are buying a pre-built PC from one of the big companies there should be nothing hard about getting it up and running.
point 3: Each to his own I think. PC for me is as easy as 1, 2, 3, to use.
point 4: PC laptops are well cheap these days although not too sure about the power issue.
point 5: debatable
point 6: depends how much you are willing to spend.
point 7: Just buy a PC.

I am just struggling to see why anyone would be able to argue that a MAC is better.
To the responder, dude5b:
1-thats seriously debatable, pc manufacturers are just lasy and think theyll get more money off of a cheaper, shttier product. also mac's have VERY little errors. on my bootcamp side, i get so frustrated because the pc has NO idea what the FUCK it is doing. i get many crashes on the pc side yet have only had ONE crash in my entire lifetime within all the macs i have used put together.
I would imagine that Apple use other peoples HDD's anyway, so they'll have exactly the same reliability as a 'PC HDD'. They're the same thing!

2-the steps to setting up a brand new mac is about 4 steps on-screen and takes roughly 2-5 mins.

Depends on what you consider 'setting up'. The same could be said for a PC.

3- Pc's are much less organized. if you tell me the name of any file u put on my computer, i can not only tell you where it is but ALSO the route in whichi you get there quite effectively

What? That depends on whether you put your files in logical places. If I save things all over the place on a Mac, you couldn't do it. That has nothing to do with the OS; it's to do with whether you bother organising things or not.

4- mac's are overall more powerfull and efficient. and for $500 you can get a 6x2x2 inch computer (no screen obvioslu but you can get one for 40$) that is core duo and that they are 'beefing up' to make it you entire home entertainment system including tv.

$599 actually, but anything with 512Mb ram is never going to be very impressive. You can get a PC that will do all that for that money, it just won't be really small, but frankly, who cares about size?

5-photoshop is VERY easy to use on mac. I made a decent photoshop, nothing special, on my first time trying.

That's not even worth looking at as an argument as to why they're good.

6- look at point #4 you can get this
for $599 and its VERY good. i have the older version on this, the not core duo one, and it still works fine and can run unreal tournament and halo fine.

As I said, meh. I wouldn't have one, too small to do anything with, and 512MB of RAM is hardly a lot for any serious use.

7-last but not least, stfu now. with the mac's having core duo pprocessers, i have TWO computers in one and i can run ANY program you shove at me right now fine. the 24 inch imac, which is also what i have, is such a great gaming computer, i can run ALL my games on HIGH

How exactly do you have two computers? Because of bootcamp? Believe it or not, but I can do all that, AND I only need one OS to do it. How's that for efficient?

and have had ping <20 if not <15

You pretty much summed up your knowledge of computers right there. Your ping is to do with your internet connection, not computer. Also, try an EU server, and I guaruntee that'll go up to more like 100.
Not trying to start an Anti-Apple war here, but I figured it'd be nice to clean up some of the shite that's floating around in this thread.
Half of that shit that you said a PC can do anything a mac can, is all bullshit unless you pay way more money. Trust me. I spent 2 months looking  for a good PC to play 2142 and it ALL ended up a $1000 + for anything decent. Im not gonna spend that kind of money to have that pile of junk get an error window and spen another $500 on repairs, tech support, and a new version on XP just because PC's FUCKING SUCK.

Well the questions that do get answered are the basic ones that always will be used for argument such as is Mac hard to use, Macs are so expensive, what games are supported by Macs, what hardware will work with a Mac, etc..

But when I ask a more deeper question about my personal experiances about it, they get neglected.

buy the external burner, if it doesn't work then return. toast will work with just about anything, nero will do dual layer.

Typical nonsense. A Mac Pro has great value vs a Dell XPS with similar specs.

If you go into preferneces on a Mac and click the mouse tab, you can change it to a 2 click mouse... Its all good, and YES I have a Mac as well

There is a project called OSX86, that is trying to port OS X to a PC. I do not know if they succeeded in that.

Bernie, as you're deleting my supposedly offtopic or whatever posts, are you going to get rid of yours?

EDIT: I do have a question though, why is it Mac users think Steve Jobs is just so wonderful? Also, why must they tell everyone they have a Mac, it's like a penis extension or something.

PS. I am not trying to start an argument, I'm just curious as it seems to me that everyone that owns a Mac has the same mentality about them. I don't get it.

Question 1: I personally have nothing with Mr. Jobs, aside I think he made Apple a great company. For as far as I know, staff from Apple are given considerable freedom to explore their own things, like the Google policy.

Question 2: I love to tell people about the OS. Why? I don't know. It has much to do with the fact that I am on a graphical study. Yet better, many of them ask me if they can check my iMac out, because they find it a beautifully designed computer. And I normally advice them to go visit a Mac store to make up their mind.

A direct way such as shift+del does not excist. This is for obvious security reasons, and I prefer this method.

Question 2: command+w closes a tab. command+q closes the program.

Question 3: You can use the 65$ burner, consider checking for compatibility first on the manufacturer website.

Ok, the systems you could look for are:

iMac 20" & 24"
MacBook Pro 17"
Mac Pro

Remember, you can customize all these machines to your own specs. Check store.apple.com .

Btw, if you guys want to see anything on video, I can record my desktop and show it.

Can either one of you, Marlboroman or Bernadictus, please recommend a Plist cleanup software, if there is such a thing. I think that is also important in getting the Mac to run smoothly. I got so much crap on my Library folder that I believe it is slowing down my machine.

edit: this is my pre-AppZapper days.. on my two year old G4 PBook.

No the MacBook 13" Black edition is not only more expensive then the normal white one, but it also has an Intel onboard graphics card, thus not being able to run games smooth, if not at all.

I do not know of any program that does so, and my classmate next to me, also has no idea.
Best recommandation I could give you is a clean reinstall, and AppZapp.

Sorry, you are right 13". Made a typo.
You would need a MacBook Pro 15", and I would advice you to go for the 2nd 15" model, with a 2,33Ghz processor and 256Mb videocard. It has a lesser value deduction over time, because of it's better specs.

My iMac (June '06) would be worth about 1900-2000 euros still (full 20" model with 3 year waranty).
