Hi guys,

as some of you now know, it's been 3 months since I sold BF2. I can't take it anymore, and I'll have a copy on my desk on Monday! I've downloaded everything I need (1.41 patch, AF + EF etc) and am certainly looking forward to playing again.

I've heard so much fuss about PR, I'm downloading it also (it's huge, so doing it by torrent). But I have a few questions about it:

- Is it still an action paced FPS kind of mod?
- I'm assuming you can still fly jets, choppers etc?

Any tips for me? I took a look at those beginner videos about all the kits. Kind of complicated, don't you think?

- kyle.

You can fly, but pilot kits must be specially requested

And it takes a LOT more skill to fly.

its not fast paced, its very realistic and a tactical shooter. if you dont like waiting for things or have no patience whatsoever then forget it...if you like a realistic shooter then get it...

If you haven't already, go to PRs website and check out their user guide and wiki for more information. It's fun, though I've only played singleplayer.

Note the word "Lot" It's fun like hell but you really cant be a lonewolf and to get specialty kits you have to be in a squad.

You can fly both choppers and planes, but it requires much more skill.
You must also get the pilot kit from the QM.

It's not as fast paced, but that's because it's realistic, and requires more teamwork and time, and tactics to do things right.

For example, I was in a squad full of Mexicans just awhile ago, couldn't understand a word. But by working together, we eventually took over the entire map, almost by ourselves.
Then the squadleader accidentally TK'd me and said, "Are you ok?" on the mic, in a funny Mexican accent

Teamwork.

There are so many things about PR that make me say, now why the hell didn't EA do this.
Its the little things like tracers and weapons sounds.
It's altogether better, unless you care about points. Which I obviously do not.

the best tip anyone can give you: get in a squad! teamwork is essential in this mod...the very reason why i love it.

flying is harder at first, but its still fun, especially since the black hawk is useful again

as far as being fast paced, it depends. ive been in some games where the action was nonstop and far more intense than it ever was in vanilla but other rounds...not so much. it depends a lot on the map. in many ways it reminds me of graw.

Basically to me its better than vannila BF2 in every aspect. Rules are different. Its assault lines so there is no running around the map capping any flag you want. Thats why even with its generally slower pace, fights can be more intense than in BF2. Also you cant spawn on the flags anymore and much more.
Every thing is more realistic... guns, vehicles, sounds etc. For example in tanks you have a driver that just drives and a gunner that shoots. So you need good coordination between the 2.

I suggest you go to this topic:
http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=64613

Than follow the link and read the guide, than watch both videos and than, since you like flying, follow the instruction and practice on a local server. You will still be a bit confused but you will know the basics. You can than add me to Xfire "zeid" and Ill gladly help you with the rest. Also its proffered to have a mic and VOIP enabled. If you have than join squads like "Voip" or "Teamwork" or "VoipTeam" etc.

MUI IMPORTANT: there are bunch of servers that are very popular and always full, that run a modified version of PR. They basically took PR and changed it back to vanilla BF2 rules. By playing on them you wont even get a taste of PR. I suggest you look for server with PROS in the title (PR official servers).

Thanks, I might take you up on that! I don't mind if it isn't as fast-paced, but I do like the sound of true teamwork and true reality.

It's great and i'm hooked.

Just so you know, the QM (Quatermaster) isn't a real player, none of the videos explained this and i was worried about someone taking the position to give kits to other clan members.

Theres a few good servers around Europe,i get 30 or so total servers with my filters as Populated,All map sizes, same mod and such.

Big download but worth it.

You can still lonewolf, but only really as Sniper or Marksman, anything else and you'll be running against odds not in your favour.

PR is great for teamwork. Like others have said, its essential to have VOIP enabled. The gameplay is a mix of fast and slow, you value your life more because they give you a 30 sec "critically wounded time" (enough for a medic to revive you if he/she isn't stupid) and 1 second penalty for respawn after that. So if you don't want to wait a while to respawn, be careful!

The AAS (Assault and Secure) mode is awesome. As the name says it, you have to assualt and secure a flag before going to the next one, so it is an absolute must to have a squad or two defending that flag before moving on to the next one, otherwise if your whole team goes after the next flag, the other team could cap the one you just got and you would have to re-take it before moving onto the next set of flags. None of this BF2 stuff where everyone is at the hotel on Karkand and the US caps the gate house.
