"Best Resignation Speech" with boxing videos in it. Nice derailment. Boooo!
Hey Major_Slabber or what ever his name is asked a question, and you know what they say, a picture says a thousand words - I thought he would like seeing someone with aspirations of being a future Republican senator getting his ass whipped by an Irishman in the ring..

Just uncovered the resignation speech of Robin Cook (RIP), leader of the UK House of Commons, during the leadup to the war in Iraq. Worth watching.
Wow not listening to that guy was a big mistake.  Hard to belive this speech was made before the war.

Robin Cook wrote:

Iraq probably has no weapons of mass destruction in the commonly understood sense of the term - namely a credible device capable of being delivered against a strategic city target.

It probably still has biological toxins and battlefield chemical munitions, but it has had them since the 1980s when US companies sold Saddam anthrax agents and the then British Government approved chemical and munitions factories.

Why is it now so urgent that we should take military action to disarm a military capacity that has been there for 20 years, and which we helped to create?  Why is it necessary to resort to war this week, while Saddam's ambition to complete his weapons programme is blocked by the presence of UN inspectors?  Only a couple of weeks ago, Hans Blix told the Security Council that the key remaining disarmament tasks could be completed within months.

I have heard it said that Iraq has had not months but 12 years in which to complete disarmament, and that our patience is exhausted.  Yet it is more than 30 years since resolution 242 called on Israel to withdraw from the occupied territories.  We do not express the same impatience with the persistent refusal of Israel to comply.

I welcome the strong personal commitment that the prime minister has given to middle east peace, but Britain's positive role in the middle east does not redress the strong sense of injustice throughout the Muslim world at what it sees as one rule for the allies of the US and another rule for the rest.
You've got to give him credit, he got it absolutely right. +1 to Robin Cook

Robin Cook ...a man who remained in touch with reality while all those around him either didn't or were too afraid to speak up.

Great speech. Speaks the truth. See the way that parasite Beckett scuttles out at the end.

What's up with that?
I was working in a hotel in Dublin last year and the place was full of self righteous obscenely over weight Americans??? Whats your point??

Fucking hell that was impressive.

Very articulate (albeit sounding a bit like John Cleese) and 100% correct at the same time.
I loved when he briefly mentioned resolution 242 as well.

I was surprised as in British comedy sketches I've seen in the past he was made out to be this little leprechaun of a man full of nervous tics and the inability to talk properly.

Let me understand this.  He resigned so he could vote?  Is that the law of Parliament?  His speech was well informed and ahead of it's time.  As an American I don't understand why he resigned.

R.I.P Robin Cook.

One of the last British Politicians who would not toe the American line and did what he was elected to do.......speak his mind, the truth. He got 'retired' to the back benches for not doing what he was told in the first place. Clare Short had balls and got run out of the party for speaking her mind too. So what do the labour party, a supposedly socialist party want their members to do? Act like Robots and do what Bush wants Blair to do with out question? The fucking Torrie's are setting themselves up as the center left party and they will win the next election. Want to hear another Labour MP pushed out for not following the party line. No offence but George Galloway is a self righteous prick who's only out for himself, I know he's just like all the other politicians, but in noway is he like Robin Cook.

If i remember rightly he resigned in protest against the war and got together with a load of other politician who all voted to continue to sort things out with the UN instead of going to war.  Obviously it made no difference.

No, you're thinking of Galloway, he went to talk in front of the Senate (Kicked ass too I might add). The whole story whiffed of bull shit to me as he is still a free man, nothing was ever proved and I think he even successfully sued a newspaper for defamation of character if I'm not mistaken.

lol i thought that was a bit odd.  Anyway did a quick google search trying to find him mentioned on fox and found an intriging fact he wrote in his final news paper column a month before he died.

"Al-Qaida, literally "the database", was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/attackonlondo … 55,00.html

A useless but interesting tidbit.
