Actually Somolia is funded by some Islamic group I think, because of the high Islamic population there now. If the US does intervene, a lot of people will start bitching about how the war is illegal etc.Sl4y3r wrote:

Well, I guess US has enough shit to deal with (even their own) atm.
I agree with this except I think things seem hopeless only because the Bush Administration is incompetent. At least in some situations, a better administration might be able to help without making a horrible mess.usmarine2007 wrote:

Why do so many Americans think the onus is on them exclusively to solve every International conflict. Table the issue in the UN and get a treaty passed, that's why they're there. People are pissed about Iraq being illegal because the US went against the UN and the advice of the weapons inspectors and waged their war anyway. Use your International might within the UN not outside it.cyborg ninja-117 wrote:

The UN did pass something in Somalia. Guess who they sent in.Braddock wrote:

The Secretary-General communicated to President Bush on 8 December his concept of a division of labour between the United Nations and the United States in the following terms: "The United States has undertaken to take the lead in creating the secure environment which is an inescapable condition for the United Nations to provide humanitarian relief and promote national reconciliation and economic reconstruction, objectives which have from the outset been included in the various Security Council resolutions on Somalia.
The first elements of the Unified Task Force (UNITAF) came ashore on the beaches of Mogadishu without opposition on 9 December 1992. On 13 December, United States forces had secured the airfield at Baledogle, and by 16 December they had seized Baidoa. The United States Central Command was following a four-phase programme to realize the objectives of securing major airports and seaports, key installations and food distribution points, and providing open and free passage of relief supplies, with security for convoys and relief organizations and those supplying humanitarian relief. The number of United States forces were expected to build to approximately 28,000 personnel, to be augmented by some 17,000 UNITAF troops from over 20 countries. In addition to United States forces, UNITAF included military units from Australia, Belgium, Botswana, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Kuwait, Morocco, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Zimbabwe."

I was referring to incompetence and thus necessities me to provide examples to demonstrate said incompetence exemplified by your present and past leaders to our resident simpleton(s). Try to keep up old chap or stick to budget airlines.usmarine2007 wrote:

Would like to offer a solution to the problem or continue with your normal BS?
"Stick to budget airlines" ??????
Was that some sort of insult?

My solution is not to propose starvation and death from AIDS as this is abhorrent and anyone rational and of sound mind would realise this.usmarine2007 wrote:

Instead i propose Ming07 is sent there to broker a peace deal whilst wearing a polka dot skirt, red lipstick and purple butt plug (to protect from aids)
Thank you.

Clinton didn't do very well with foreign interventions (except maybe Bosnia). But I didn't say Clinton was competent. I was imagining some future administration that would not screw things up literally or figuratively.usmarine2007 wrote:

United Nations (plural), at least when we're all on the same agenda there is less finger pointing and accusations of blame ...I know it was American troops that got hit worst in Somalia but when you work within the framework of the UN you have more support and backing. My comment was addressed more towards the people on this forum who feel America should unilaterally intervene in International affairs - a concept that is sadly another bi-product of the current Iraq conflict. America is big enough and strong enough to do what it likes but I wish for their sake they would operate within UN mandates, they would find their global image improve.Kmarion wrote:

For the record I feel the EU should build more of a unified military capability for peace keeping and UN intervention purposes to take the strain off the US, the US 'suffers' from being the strongest military power on the planet in that action is kind of expected first and foremost from them, which shouldn't have to be the case.

Salvation is just a payload away!

Explain to me how is Iraq exactly illegal? I don't see anywhere that says invading a country is "Illegal", but immoral? Yes.Braddock wrote:

Nuke 'em as well?
Well, to be honest, that probably would have happened if that had been the case.Braddock wrote:

Jews generally are a successful people. Because of their money and power, we focus a lot on their persecution in things like history courses. The Holocaust was very much a horrible thing, but we often forget that half of the persecuted were non-Jews, like the Gypsies and homosexuals. We also gloss over what Japan did to its neighbors at that time.
The U.N. is mostly useless, but I agree that America should stop thinking it's the only country capable of fixing the world.Braddock wrote:

And why is the UN mostly useless? Just because they dont agree with the US governments and their warmongering?
Because several member nations are so corrupt that they make the U.S. look saintly by comparison: Russia and China, for two major examples.Sl4y3r wrote:

We'd need to add Australia, Japan, Brazil, and a few others to NATO, but we'd still keep the really corrupt nations out of the mix.
For the most part, America and Europe should be the key players in making many of the world's decisions, because we're less corrupt than a lot of the rest of the world. Granted, we still have plenty of problems.
EDIT: Removed inaccuracy about Russia.
