Nope, even without that jump many estimated this year to be the first that China could successfully invade Taiwan, the jump is because that's what modernised countries do: they build big armies.

China would most definitely be willing to use force against Taiwan.

They could be waiting to see if the US commit to more wars in the ME. If they did it would not be financially viable for them to intervene militarily and retaliation through use of economic sanctions would probably hurt the US at least as much as it would hurt China. The US is the only force that could prevent China from any sort of military action and if they are bogged down in 3-4 other countries then they are financially incapable of intervention - short of conventional (or nuclear, but that would NEVER happen) ICBM missile strikes (attacking from a carrier group with cruise missiles would most likely be too costly, since the Chinese could attack the carrier group and potentially destroy it).

Was listening to a Chinese guy on the radio last night, with all this current interest in China investing vast sums of cash into Military hardwear, and he was completely brazen about it, basically they are going for Taiwan and want to have an army big enough so that the Americans will keep their noses out of what doesn't concern them - Also because of their interests in Iran and Africa which they will defend should they feel they are threatened, I couldn't believe it..

I can. The Chinese can see the US aren't really going to do anything and so they've decided to just take the piss. It'd be to costly for the US to do anything about it.

I'm shocked they'd go so far as to say they'd defend interests in Iran - that'll keep the Americans out and even the Israelis aren't stupid enough to fuck with the Chinese.

Exactly what i have been saying. China is a huge looming threat.

They will use force to take her, and we will not use any force but nuclear weapons against China.

Which means Taiwan will belong to China soon as it's not worth world wide carnage.
