My friends told me that the 8800GTS loses against the X1950XTX, but against all others it wins. Although, TomsHardware (where he got the info) has been wrong before. Has anyone got the 8800GTS and would like to share the info or their review on it. I ordered it today and I know itll be a big difference over my 7600gt.

That is the one I got, Im pretty sure its better than all DX9 cards.... there is almost no way it isnt. Its better in every category. (stats wise)

Any personal reviews or what I should expect?

I'm pretty damn sure the 8800 doesn't get owned by anything.

Supposedly 2 x1950xtx's in crossfire will beat a single 8800 GTX. But who would pay the extra couple hundred for the ati? Oh and the power supply requirements would be monstrous as well.

Nope! An 8800gts will beat an x1950xtx.(Not in crossfire just one on one) The x1950xtx has 31,200 complex shader op's, 10,400 tmu's and the same amount of rop's. While the 8800gts has 28,800 complex shader op's(If it could do them the old way) 12,000 tmu's and 10,000 rop's. On paper what looks better?

I read that an X1950XTX will beat a 8800GTS at low res, but when you get up to the higher reses, the GTS pulls ahead.

interesting, but it is absolutely useless to buy a card like that and use low resolution. Bye useless I mean stupid.

I thought it was just the other way round, that the X1950XTX outperforms it at higher resolutions, just like it did with any other nVidia card (except for the 8800GTX and possibly the 7950GX2)...

e6400 @ stock speeds
2GB PC2-6400
eVGA 8800 GTS 640MB

runs Battlefield with high settings (dynamic shit off) @ 1680x1050 solid between 95-100 FPS on a dual monitor setup. Results may be similar with X1950XTX, but considering they are virtually the same price and the GTS out performs it and any other single card solution (GTX excepted) there's really no reason to go with anything other than the GTS, IMO. The only benchmarks I've seen the 8800GTS losing to the X1950XTX in were from HL2, and the reasons are fairly obvious on that one. Yeah, Crossfire'd X1950XTXs will beat it in most cases, but that's pretty much null argument since you could SLI the GTS for the same price.

You make a good point. That's the thing about all these "Which is better" questions; it depends what you're going to use it for. And then there's price to add to the equation. I'm happy with my X1950, but I hope I don't need to upgrade for DX10 in the near future.

I do. Its awesome. I get 100+ FPS on bf2 all high settings, 1440x900 8x AA. Never misses a beat, could not be happier.
With fraps I record at 60fps and record the full screen on high settings. Never drops below 55fps and you cannot tell the difference between frapsing and not frapsing .

I do. I run BF2 all high with 16xQ AA, 16xAF @ 1680x1050 at 98-100FPS. I run FEAR on all highest settings with 8x AA, 16x AF @ 1680x1050 with soft shadows and Vsync on at 40-60FPS (seems very smooth though). I get over 10000 in 3dmark'06 (with a touch of overclocking). It's an excellent card, I suspect the 320MB version performs well too. Mine is an XFX and OCs beyond 660MHz (from 500MHz stock), though the memory doesn't keep up with the GPU overclocking.

Other Specs:

E6300@somewhere between 3 and 3.5GHz - I'm always changing it.

Does the GTS really do that well?
Jesus, thats fast for that price. ~6 months ago I paid $550 for my X1900XT, and with my E6400 I only get 5100 on 06. Granted, I only have 512mb of RAM, but all the same.....

I have an opteron 170 running @ 2.7 GHz  I had a x1900xt and was getting around 4700 in 3dmark 06 now with my 8800gts (640MB version)  I get around 8200. ( haven't overclocked the card yet).  the 1900xt I could run at 1920 X 1200 but would get choppy once in a while,   8800 @ 1920X1200 smooth as silk.  I was really reluctant about getting the card at first, have been a bit of an ati fan-boy for awhile, but seeing as they didn't get off there asses and get anything new to market, I decided to go with the nvidia card, and I am quite happy with the decision.

Battlefield 2 over 100FPS, 80 in arty strikes. Able to record fraps at full 60FPS fine so jerks or anything.

considering the spec comparison i think that nvidia is not allowing it to push to the max. More like they are unlocking features as time gos by to save loads of money. Like the dodge viper 8.3L v10 that  makes a wussy 500hp.
