"Losing the Falklands would boost Argentina’s regional and international image, but more importantly, it will further deflate Britain’s tattered global image."

http://www.thetrumpet.com/index.php?pag … mp;id=2338

I am aware it is an article from July of last year.  But I have not heard more about this.  We have another fight on our hands here?  Not sure Argentina could defeat the British anyway.

Argentina would get its ass handed to it AGAIN, if it fought the British yet again.

Something which this small article leaves out is what the Falklanders want, and they want to remain British. It'll stay that way.

I would imagine so.  What does Argentina have for military anyway?

Is it possible that this is an independant thread and not one created in retaliation to something?
I'm leary.

Can't they negotiate some sort of shared use plan?

Well, forcibly shipping all 2913 of them back to Britain wouldn't be the best P.R. boost for any P.M. :-) Argentina should know not to meddle in the Falklands again...

I got home from work and there was some old Falkland footage on one of those discovery/military/whatever channels.  Digital cable...can't keep track of them.

Since the last Falklands war the island has prospered economically.  And considering 70% if the population consider themselves British I don't see why the Argies would want to pick a fight over this again.

Its true that it is not as tactically important as it used to be, however that's not the point here.  Politics aside, the island should be kept British, because it is in the islanders own interest.

If it means another conflict then so be it.

Argentina would sadly lose again. It's not a territory where guerrilla war tactics would be fully effective and the British have much more sophisticated weaponry. I say sadly because I don't believe it should be under British rule, I think the days of empires owning land half the world away belong in the past. It's just off the coast of Argentina for God's sake, how could Britain claim any natural right to the land?

A far flung island 99% populated by sheep.  The inhabitants don't even get British citizenship for god sake.

Britain clutching on the last tattered threads of its colonial past.

Ask any islander that and they'll gladly tell you. Same goes for Gibraltar. Oh, and even if the Falklands was made up of a jungle, guerilla warfare wouldn't work. Why? There's no one to be guerillas!

There is another reason why the British would want to keep it besides patriotism: http://www.falklands-oil.com/

After the war in 1982, they were granted full British citizenship.

True dat.  However, The British Overseas Territories Act 2002 knocked that little decision into touch.

look it up as i am too lazy to do any searches, I'm sure wikipedia will prob have some info on it.

Lets think about this for a second, they could be members of one of the richest countries in the world... or they could belong to a poor country. Not too hard a decision for them.

Most of the islanders want the islands to remain in British control.  Theres your answer.

Besides, Argentina wouldn't just lose, it'd have its arse handed to it by the British on a silver platter, with a side of roast vegetables and salad!

Im not questioning the loyalty of the Falklands residents.  They are not considered as British Citizens as Killswitch implied.

I'm sure they sing God Save the Queen and root for the Brits at the Olympics, still doesn't make you British.

The last war there we were lucky to win, it wasn't an 'Asscreaming' as some of you think it was.
