Yknow, I was watch "The Boondock Saints" again last night, and I don't know why, but that quote in the very beginning of the movie really sat with me. For those of you who haven't seen the movie,

The Boondock Saints wrote:

And I am reminded, on this holy day, of the sad story of Kitty Genovese. As you all may remember, a long time ago, almost thirty years ago, this poor soul cried out for help time and time again, but no person answered her calls. Though many saw, no one so much as called the police. They all just watched as Kitty was being stabbed to death in broad daylight. They watched as her assailant walked away. Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men.
I think this is something we take for granted in modern society. We SHOULD fear the indifference of good men. I think we LET evil run rampant in our society. Now, I'm not a huge fan of Rousseau, but I think that people have a good streak that underlies their nature. It may not be present in ALL people, but it certainly is present in most. And yet, here we stand by and WATCH as people in this world that would do evil are allowed to run rampant and free. All we can do is sit back and make excuses to "justify" their behavior and thus allow us to take the easy way out. We the people, however, have the power in this world. No one else. Others only have power if we LET them have power.

Others can only get away with doing evil in this world if we allow them to get away with it. Remember that.

We all have the ability to do good, but I believe the streak that underlies our nature is decidedly evil/selfish, rather than good.  The only way to not stand by and watch as people in this world that do evil run rampant and free is to be a vigilante.  That’s not legal, so that’s why we don’t do it.  Being a vigilante also carries the risk of taking out the wrong person.  The desire to see justice done runs strong in most of us, so I understand where you’re coming from.

I can't think of another movie that uses the word "fuck" that many times.  I had to watch it when my wife wasn’t home. Movies that have the bad guys getting their justice in the form of a good beating or a large number of bullets are some of my favorites.

We had a drinking game where you take a shot every time they say "Fuck" but we had to quit cause one guy got really sick...We don't play that game anymore...

I dunno, I was just being a little preachy with this thread. I quote the movie not because I think that we should go and kill mobsters, but that I feel that the people of today's society don't speak out against injustices that they see. If enough people decry injustice and evil, eventually something will have to be done. But people are comfortable with their lives and don't want to get involved. It's just sort of sad I guess.
