Why doesn't the M16 get replaced?

Obviously the M16 sucks monkey balls according to the marines, pretty much same with the M4. Jamming issues and everything.

I've been watching a lot of news latly on the war and they always show marines with Ak's in hand instead of the M16....

So why doesn't the US just loot all of the AK's they get back, make them look nice, put on some rails and all, and issue them out and sell all the M16's somewhere else?

(same with RPKS>SAWS)

Actually, I believe just recently the US military was looking into a new rifle that was actually very versatile. But unfortunately they canceled it. Why, I'll never know.

Also, from what I've heard, the marines actually really like the M4. But the M16 is definitely overdue for a replacement. It was overdue for a replacement back in the 1970's when it was being used in Vietnam.

The M16 is getting old and NATO is testing heaps of other attack rifles and have already applied the use of several rifles for smaller units on a trial basis !

From what I gather, AK wins at reliability and maintenance, M16 wins at accuracy and performance.
