Actually it's a poll of 25 different countries, including the US.

If you're saying the world hates America for their belligerent foreign policy, then yes, I agree. The world has good reason to and US unilateralism (or unilateral action by any country) should be discouraged.

This is an age of globalisation and international cooperation. The two go hand in hand. US foreign policy seems stuck in the past, utilising outdated divide and rule type stratagems from an age where they worked, back when empires were around.

Bashing America where?  It's a poll more related to Bush than America.  I will teach you a thing you don't know, Bush and America, two different things.  You don't even know me, or you probably are talking because it's free.  If you can post a link to my bashing America threads because I don't remember them.

What is the problem with you people?  This is just a poll about "American foreign policy" not about "How much America sucks", you need to differentiate.
The BBC has conducted a very serious poll, as always, but it never mentioned something about American citizens or America itself.  It's all about this BS administration, which has deteriorated America's image around the World, because of its foreign policies.  That's it and forget about Anti-Americanism in this forum.  Worry about the rise of Anti-Americanism out of this forum.
And shame on you, the few Americans who hasn't contributed to improve that image in this thread.  And the same goes to the non Americans who joined the trolling and flaming.
My respect to Kmarion, who behaved all the time and worried to improve America's image with his always moderate and intelligent posts.  +1 Kmarion.
Ive been trying to get across to a few people that this ISNT about people not liking Americans, its about how they disagree with political and military roles the country has taken part in.

My theory is that Americans believe in an idealistic concept of democracy - therefore, the government is an extention of the people and therefore, the people.  Europe ain't like that - there's a history of separation of gov't, if those countries aren't separated already.

I don't think there's an easy way around that.

Maybe you have a point but what many Americans need to learn here is, when someone criticizes Bush, or whoever, he isn't bashing America.  Bush is just another person, who happens to be the president of US.  I can say "hey, Bush fucked up again" and my American relatives and friends won't tell me "stfu you anti-American asshole".

Right, but I'm trying to explain the behavior just as you are.  "Why am I being called anti-American?"  Well, it's because most Americans DON'T make a separation between the gov't and the public.  I believe its pretty much ingrained in the culture...so how exactly do we unlearn our culture?

In other words, gov't criticism is more likely to be taken personally...sorry.  A fatal flaw...good luck dealing with it.

Plus there's the lack of tone on the internet.

I know an even simpler solution.  Those people who bash something American but don't want to be called anti- American can go to a forum in their own country and bash away.

Polls are usually BS, and one sided, I dont really care or base my decisions on polls.

Look at America or any country.  Take a look at how many people are trying to A: Get in, and B: How many are trying to get out. I think the US is doing just fine! The US is not the problem of the world, we are just the envy of less fortunate and less successful civilizations.

That is a great example of a commonly held American misconception.

Those sorts of misconceptions only serve to diminish the already dwindling support the US recieves from the international community.

Yes Sir. BBC makes some great documentaries, from what I remember of them. I recall some great British comedies produced by them as well. I'm guessing the BBC is in the same categories as CBS or FOX, here in the US.

We have thousands of people walking (legally and illegally) into this country, daily. Maybe I'm missing the real story here, just like all of you, but when was the last time you read the headlines,"THE US IS A HORRIBLE PLACE TO LIVE FREE: THOUSANDS FLEE!" Nope didn't think so.

As Expected^^^^^, thank you for demonstrating, my opinion. Or you can call if my "misconception" And to clarify: No The US is not the End All, BE All. There are many great places and people on this floating rock we call Earth. I'm just a very blessed and proud US Citizen. More on the diminishing support from the international community, ask most Americans and look back in history not even 100years ago. The US does not  need your support. Again you need ours.

I think Teflon has difficulty with the fact that 'the best country' is a purely subjective opinion of every individual on the planet. People sowing soccer balls in deepest darkest Africa for ten cents a day would no doubt find anywhere but where they are right now as an attractive place to go. The fact that the US has such lax border security and law enforcement when it comes to illegal immigration just helps the poor wretches decide which country they'd prefer to chance getting into.

It's not a horrible place to live. No one ever suggested it was. The US has one of the highest standards of living in the world, coming in just outside the top ten.

Comparing FOX and the BBC is just laughable.

No Cameron, I really don't have difficulty, with that I clearly stated that is my opinion. I am a very patriotic person, and I have been since I was a young kid. However I don't understand your point about people wanting to come here, to the US, just based on our lax border security and law enforcement. As you stated so that the poor wretches have a good chance, or was that your sarcasm as to my opinion as the US being one of the best places to hang your hat? So they travel the world just hoping to get in any country? Hey the US has weak immigration and border security, let's try that one! I lol'ed, seriously what is your point?

The point is most other big countries with a high standard of living have very tight immigration control, Australia for example.

The US is a good choice for immigrants because of the combination of it being a good place to live and being relatively easy to immigrate to illegally.

From the comment in the Telegraph the other day Bertster

..It may not be long before Englishmen start appearing in Irish jokes as dim-witted rustics. So quickly has the republic grown that, once costs and parities are factored in, its citizens are now as wealthy as any in the world. As always, of course, a sudden boom has its downsides. Ireland is experiencing large-scale immigration, and its house prices are beyond the reach of many. There is also a good deal of ugly, gimcrack over-development. But these are the difficulties attendant on success.

Many British people attribute Ireland's growth to EU subsidies, yet this is almost the precise opposite of the truth. While Ireland was, until recently, a substantial net recipient of EU funding, these grants went into the least productive sectors of the economy, notably agriculture. The EU has contributed nothing to the areas where Ireland has grown most impressively, such as software and financial services. On the contrary, Brussels has complained about the tax cuts that were the basis of Ireland's success.

The hard truth is that, while Britain has been raising its taxes faster than any other industrialised nation, Ireland has gone in the opposite direction. In consequence, for the first time since the partition of the United Kingdom in 1921, Ireland has overtaken its neighbour. As the Americans say, go figure.

And Ireland deserve kudos for their achievements. I don't expect this economic expansion to continue at the same rate for Ireland indefinately. But it's good. The more economic power within the EU the better it is for all member states.
